Music 100 Essay #3 The classical music of India has evolved throughout numerous centuries. India, one of four major music systems that first sprouted, was initially influenced by people who travelled from the northwest and spoke Aryan. This migration and influence on the Indian system of music occurred during the back half of the Bronze age. The Aryan people brought sanskrit written religious poems to India, who helped create the classical music of India. These religious poems brought by the Aryans had a tremendous influence on the overall culture in India because they helped create the Hindu religion. The religious poems, as well as the core to religious music, chants, combined to influence and form the creation of this music type in India. As time progressed, India became influenced by numerous cultures, like those in Europe, which led to the constant evolving music type that the culture in India listened to. India became two separate regions after the Persians came in during the thirteenth century. This country then became influenced by Islam and the caste system, causing Northern Indian music to be known as the Hindustani, and southern Indian music to be called carnatic. One of the major differences between these two cultures was differing views they had on music. In southern India, musicians were seen as higher class, and the music type was mainly religious rituals. In comparison, northern India regarded musicians as lower class, and the music type was mostly made up from instrumental sounds....
