Ariana Perez Dr. Goncy PSY 220 Child development Toy description and evaluation 11/4/2017 Learn With Me Zebra Walker The “Learn with me zebra walker” is a toy that is a walker in the shape of a zebra and is recommended for children “6 months and up”. The zebra body has gadgets that help with counting numbers, learning the alphabet, turning a ball, using fingers to turn a wheel, a giant switch, and a toy that flips from one animal to another. The walker is interactive. It will talk to the baby and sing the alphabet and numbers. It will explain that it is a zebra and it has stripes. The walker will also interact with the baby when the child is using it to walk by encouraging the child to continue doing its best. The walker also has buttons that light up. One button is for singing and another is for talking about animals and they correspond with the interactive book that is attached to the walker. The walker has four sturdy wheels and a handle to help children walk. The online store also has 2 short videos of children interacting with the toy and how the toy is used for educational purposes. Learn with me zebra walker 1. The recommended age range for this toy is 6 months – 3 years (6 months-36 moths). 2. Based on what I have learned in class the age range provided by the manufacturer is appropriate because it can enhance the infants motor skills. In our text book on page 186 “Around 4 to 5 months, when infants begin to sit up, both hands become more

coordinated in exploring objects.” By 9 months infants are able to use pincer grasp and by 11 months infants are attempting to walk as demonstrated on a chart on page 182. 3. The across this age range can efficiently use the toy as intended with the abilities they have because they can enhance their motor skills and listen to the toy sing the alphabet or numbers and learn from it while playing. As the child grows they can adapt to walking while having fun and being encouraged by the toy. 4. Some claims that were made were “Lots of busy finger activities help exercise fine motor skills” and “This baby walker helps foster balance and coordination, and gives gross motor skills a healthy workout.”. 5. The website I found this toy on has a second video about the making of the toy. In the video the designer talks about how some features are made for “developing fine motor skills and pincer-grasp.” The creator also says that the walker helps the baby develop core strength because the baby would have to sit up to play with the toy. The creator states that the toy helps in developing critical thinking because the baby would have to think of ways to play along with “the cause and effect” that comes when interacting with the toy. 6. If I could add somethings to this toy I would add something that has textures or was soft to touch so children could get a feel for different things. I would make the texture a sort of squishy silly putty type texture that the baby could poke and feel as a contrast to the rest of the toy being made of plastic. 7. The toy enhances the child’s development because it interacts with the child and helps the child learn to walk. It also helps teach children about animals, numbers, and letters.

8. It allows the child to help enhance their motor skills with interactive toys, learning different topics, and encourages how to walk by saying encouraging words to help the baby gain confidence in walking as it grows. 9. The toy appeals to infants developing learning capacities because it engages the infant in fun ways to learn. The walker talks to the infant and encourages the child to keep playing and learning....
