Description

Fundamental Steps of Folk Dance Most folk dances are based on several fundamental dance steps. According to Lopez (2006), Philippine Folk Dances should have simple, basic rhythm and dominates the dance and establishes the pattern of movement. With these, it is imperative to review and learn the different dance steps in order to perform several folk dances. The following are some of the fundamental basic positions and steps that are useful in learning how to perform folk dancing.

DANCE POSITION OF THE ARMS AND FEET ARMS POSITION 1st Position The arms raised and encircled in front hands, hanging naturally.

FEET POSITION 1st Position Feet together. Heels closed, toes open

2nd Position The arms raised sideward at waist level with graceful curve.

3rd Position The R (L) arm makes half circle over in front of the head, the L (R) arms is in 2nd position.

4th Position The R (L) arm makes a half circle over and in front of the head. The L(R) are is in 1st position.

5th Position The arms are rounded above and slightly in front of the head so that the fingertips are just within the line of vision and the palms are slightly facing downward.

2nd Position Feet apart sideways at shoulder width

3rd Position The heel of one foot is placed near the in-step of the other foot.

4th Position One foot is placed diagonally forward, heel slightly twisted out and in line with the heel of the other foot.

5th Position The heel of one foot is placed near the edge of the ball, slightly twisted out, toes almost facing sideways and in line with the heel of the other foot....
