Eye Contact Film Critique I would rate the film Eye Contact a 4.5 out of 5 stars. This suspenseful film takes place in the middle of the woods. A woman is on a run while a mysterious shadow follows her. The filmmakers want you to feel the runner’s anxiety and panic which they portrayed in a cinematic manner. In the film, there are many creative techniques used to create suspense. In the intro of the movie, the film is desaturated with slow fading in and out text. The director changes the camera angles every few seconds and zooms in and out which can help build suspense. In part 1 of Eye Contact, the sound of a bell is played frequently. In part 2, a loud cymbal is played whenever the runner notices the shadow. This helps the audience build a fear of the shadow. The director pushes the viewers to feel the runner’s anxiety by including various jumpscares. The filmmakers also chose eerie and loud music which can signify panic. All of these techniques created an immense amount of suspense. Although suspense was present, the film was too predictable. After a few jumpscares, the viewers soon realize that whenever the runner looks back, the shadow will appear the second time. The most memorable scene is when the runner encounters the shadow at the dirt road. Overall, Eye Contact is a recommendable short film....
