What is your topic and sub-topic? Why did you choose this topic? How do you expect to benefit as a student of English? How do you plan to collect relevant information and also use the material?

2. Indicators of Group Activity Three stimuli (pieces of material) collected from your personal research. The three pieces must be different types. The material can be the following:               

Picture/poster Article – magazine, newspaper Brochure Comic strip/cartoon Song Poem Story Video clip Report Speech Diary entry Blog entry Advertisement Leaflet Textbook Info – History, Geography, Social Studies

3. Reflections Your three pieces will be used to write your reflections. Each reflection should be around 150 words. 

 

Reflection 1: Theme Describe how your theme was presented in each of the three pieces submitted in your portfolio and how each piece shaped your thinking. Reflection 2: Language How is language used in the three pieces you found? Reflection 3: Process How conducting the research contributed to your thinking skills and your personal development?

4. Written Report When you have completed your research and have evidence of group activity, you must produce a written report of 250-300 words in which you summarize the processes and outcomes of your research and comment on the three stimuli selected from your group’s collection of materials. You are expected to provide a summary of the processes, procedures and outcomes of your research.  



Processes – what did you do as individuals and a group to acquire the pieces you have? Was it easy or difficult to find material? Procedures – what did you do as a group to start thinking about these things, e.g. meetings, drafting work, raising questions. What steps did you take to get the work done? Outcomes – Are you happy with the outcome of your research and they way you worked as a group? Explain.

5. Oral Presentation This is a personal response to your chosen topic and the research you conducted. You may express your response in the form of an argumentative speech, drama or monologue, poetry or song. The presentation must be delivered orally in 3-5 minutes to your teacher. You should use Standard English but a few phrases in dialect is permitted where appropriate. You must write a brief plan of your oral presentation to put in your portfolio. The plan should contain the following information:   

The theme of your research and the subtopic you chose The sources you consulted and the type of language used in them The genre of your presentation and your reasons for choosing it.
