Show me how You revive the dead,’ He said, ‘Do you not believe?’ He said, ‘Yes indeed, but in order that my heart may be at rest.’ He said, ‘Catch four of the birds. Then cut them into pieces, and place a part of them on every mountain, then call them; they will come to you hastening. And know that Allah is all-mighty and all-wise.’ 2. A summary Background : The above quranic ayah highlights on the story of Abraham that wants to see Allah’s supremacy in the matter of life and death. He believes in the power of Allah but he just want to reassure his heart. Allah shows that by making dead birds that was impossible to regain life but came back alive successfully and nobody except Allah can do that. This teach us that we can never questioning Allah power because His power is beyond our doubt. Tafsir Al-Azhar ( Abd Malik Abd Amrullah ) This tafsir discusses about the reality and nature of mankind with God, specifically on mankind’s existence. Hamka begins with the analogy of doves as messengers in order to better explain the surah. No matter how far the doves fly to they will always return to their owners. The same is said with mankind. It is such that our soul have been bounded with and by God, that we shall return to Him when the day comes. As oppose to the other tafsir, Hamka focuses more on the definite and unquestionable truth that surrounds the soul of mankind and its relation to God as the creator. The centre of Hamka’s tafsir is that mankind will return to God on the Day of Judgement.

Tafsir Maarif Al – Quran (Muhammad Shafi Deobandi ) Similarly, this tafsir also mentioned that the creatures will return to Him when the day arrives but it emphasizes more on the ability of Allah to raise the dead. Muhammad Shafi Deobandi also states that Ibrahim does not have any doubt about Allah’s power. He just asks out of curiosity because raising someone to death is something beyond man’s power. It is natural for mankind to have this kind of curiosity. In addition, this phenomenon has become symbolic of the Day of Resurrection as Allah said this is how the creatures would be revived to life again. However, this tafsir focused more on the highlighted issue which is: 1) By asking this question, Ibrahim removes the mental distraction that keeps bothering him. The state of removing mental distraction and is replaced by the heart at rest is what we called peace or sukun. 2) The difference between Iman and Itminan also came out in this discussion. Fi Zilal al-Qur'an ( Sayyid Qutb) This tafsir highlights curiosity too but it is not motivated by lack of conviction or the demand for proof to confirm one's faith but has a different flavor, excited by a spiritual yearning to see and share one of God's secrets. It is a natural and spontaneous desire to know and learn how the divine will operators, not to believe or obtain proof, but to experience total peace and gain reassurance. Abraham was able to witness the secret of breathing life into the dead unfolding before his own eyes. This tafsir emphasizes the secret that occurs all the time, but people only see its effects after its process has been completed. It is the greatest mystery of life, which was created in the first instance by God out of nothing, and which renews itself an infinite number of times in every new living thing. Besides, it is the one mystery that continues to elude human perception. It is the prerogative of God Almighty, of whose perfect and absolute knowledge man can acquire nothing, except by His will that this sphere should remain beyond the bounds of human knowledge, possibly because it is beyond man's comprehension and is not required for the fulfillment of man's mission on earth. Conclusion To summarize, we can highlight that this verse mentioned the curiosity expressed by a devoted and pious person, Prophet Abraham. From the incident that had been told in this verse, we can see that it is the reality and nature of mankind's existence and all of us will return to him at last. Besides, we can clarify that there are times when one does perfectly believe in something not seen, but there is no peace of heart because its modes and forms are not known. Thus, we can understand that it is the greatest mystery of life, which was created in the first instance by God out of nothing.
