Operation management is very important for every organization. A business can be successful if it has an efficient manager. The main concept of operation management is turning the raw materials into a finished goods. To maintain an effective management, it requires proper planning, organizing, staffing, monitoring, controlling, directing, motivating. So, operation management is basically managing the resources; creating and delivering products & services. 1) Why do you think operation management is the heart of every business? It plays a vital role to manage organizations especially large ones. An effective management system can improve productivity and boost the profit margin because using minimum resources and getting the maximum output indicates the effective operational management. 2. In your own language write why studying operation management is important. Operation management is related to the production of goods and services in an organization. The main purpose of the operations management is to run the business operations successfully, effectively by using the minimum resources and meeting customer expectations. Operation management means managing resources; creating & delivering products and services. Using fewer resources getting maximum output indicates effective operational management. If a manager is knowledgeable enough to operation management, he may run the business properly. We should study operation management for four reasons: 1) It is important to know how operation activity functions. 2) We want to know how goods and services are produced. 3) We need to understand how managers operate the business. It will help to explore career opportunities. 4) It provides a major opportunity for an organization to improves profitability. As it is a costly part of an organization, we can learn how to allocate the cost. 3. Refer to the video. Point out which resources the three CEOs are talking about. In the video, the three CEOs were talking about staff, knowledge, and machinery. 4. According to the Founder and CEO of Richshaw bagworks, which system is the most efficient from the labor perspective? Lean manufacturing is the most effective system according to Mark Dwight. Toyota makes cars in this way. This U-shaped design is made from the perspective of labor. In this way, labor can be more interactive and work efficiently. As labor is the main resource for making bags, lean manufacturing design can be efficient. 5. In the Pizza making process what should be minimized according to Kevin Sudo?

The back and forth process should be reduced in the pizza-making process. Employees should have some particular definite tasks whether they will be serving the customers or making pizzas. The movement of employees should be minimized to make the process effective. 6. What are the four ingredients to prepare a recipe for disaster according to Kevin Sudo? The four recipes for perfect disaster are: Poor system management, Inefficient way of doing, Not aware of situation and Keep eye on what’s going on. 7. How many employees Lagunitas Brewing has? Lagunitas brewing Co. has 310 employees now but it is changing over the time. They have a director of operations, vice-president on operation system. Now they have better training system and operation system. 8. What is as important as designing and selling to Mark Dwight? Making is as important as designing and selling to Mark Dwight. He believes, they are not only marketers but also makers. The making quality is also important to them. 9. Why does Mark emphasizes on knowing the making process? Mark emphasizes on knowing the making process because customer judge them by knowing the operation process. Also, customers judge them & know them over their products. 10. Why a college student should study operation management in words of Ron Linden Busch? A college student should know how parts are moving and how things are made. It is something that requires knowledge and experience. Students should know how to manage a group & work with a group.
