Assignment Unit 2 Read the mini-case study in section 2.1. “Case in Point: SAS Institute Invests in Employees.” The study generally discusses the approach of a major software company to its employees. Then, consider the “Factors That Have the Strongest Influence over Work Behaviors” from figure 2.15. Describe how each of the four factors is managed by SAS. Do you agree or disagree with the firm’s approach and policies? Why or why not? The factor are as follows: 1. Job performance 2. Organizational citizen 3. Absenteeism 4. Turnover

1. Job Performance Job performance refer to the level to which an employee successfully fulfils the factors included in the job description. In case of SAS they gave their worker opportunity to work on interesting and challenging projects. The employee management had make sure that their workplace is the best place in the whole world and all employee are happy with their job description.

2. Organizational citizen This are voluntary behaviors employees perform to help others and benefit the organization. In SAS case: The company makes an effort to concentrate in area of analytics which add more value to the company and help organization best to

analyze disparate data for decision making, creating opportunities for SAS workers to be challenged. The company removes obstacles for employees. SAS has treated their employees well in bad times as well as in good times.

3. Absenteeism

This refers to unscheduled absences from work and that real affect the ability to control the company’s budget and whole management. In case of SAS: Ceo Jim Goodnight said SAS will not have layoffs that’s means he will not cut any benefits for the employee and to boost up their reputation to offer perks for their employees. And offer unlimited sick leaves, and also encourage their employees to work reasonable hours then go to their families. This benefit the company because no employee will be absent from work.

4. Turnover

This refers to an employee’s leaving an organization it could be poor customer services or company-wide performance. In SAS, CEO Jim Goodnight has made sure the employees are happy by allowing them to have some entertaining facilities at work such fully gym and all types of sport in the campus and also have their dependents to get free treatments. Employees seems enjoying working at SAS and are unusually attached to the company, resulting in a turnover rate that is less than 4% in an industry where 20% in the norm.

Do you agree with the firm’s policies? I agree with the firm’s policies because all the employees are very happy and satisfied with company’s policies for some reasons: The employees find their work more flexibly by understand their role in the company, the company treat everyone equal and really taking care of them by giving them opportunity to explore challenges that comes along in the line of their duties.
