PURPOSE OF MEDICATION

Medication Administration This medication can be administered via P.O., IV, IM
Contraindications/Precautions contraindicated in active untreated infections, epidural use, known alcohol, bisulfite, cow’s milk, or tartrazine hypersensitivity, or intolerance. Administration of live virus vaccines, and lactation. Cautiously: chronic treatment, stress, potential infections may mask signs, systemic sclerosis.
Interactions
Nursing Interventions assess involved system before and periodically during therapy, assess for s/s adrenal insufficiency (hypotension, wt loss, weakness, confusion, lethargy) monitor weight, observe for steady weight gain, rales/crackles, or dyspnea.
Loop diuretics, Hypokalemia may increase risk of digoxin toxicity, may increase requirements for insulins or oral hypoglycemic agents, phenytoin, phenobarbital, and rifampin stimulate metabolism, may decrease effectiveness. increased risk of GI bleed.
