Pathophysiology Related to Client Problem not been determined, and no objective biologic markers correspond definitively with the disease state. However, twin, family, and adoption studies all indicate that bipolar disorder has a significant genetic component.

Health Promotion and Disease Prevention To help prevent a manic episode, avoid triggers such as caffeine, alcohol or drug use, and stress. Exercise, eat a balanced diet, get a good night's sleep, and keep a consistent schedule.

PATIENT-CENTERED CARE

Nursing Care assess client history, appearance and behavior, affect, mood, thought process and content. Provide safety, therapeutic communication, promote appropriate behavior, meet physiologic needs (decrease environmental stimulation, provide finger foods) , and manage/administer ordered meds. Evaluate and reassess client.
