Problem statement

Major problems that today's society and our surrounding are facings are listed below, there are lot many problems that are to be addressed but the problem that can be addressed and has to be solved as soon as possible are listed below: -

Pollution in multiple ways air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution etc. Adolescent pregnancy, access to clean drinking water, child abuse and neglect, crime, domestic violence, drug use, pollution, mismanagement of resources, lack of funding for schools and services, ethnic conflict, health disparities, HIV/ AIDS, hunger, inadequate emergency services, inequality, jobs, lack of affordable housing, poverty, transportation, violence, racism and police brutality.

I tried to solve some problems as an individual. The energy and time it took was addressable but the results it showed was of great significance. As an individual my opinion to the society is work in groups, work alone but your little efforts to the goodness of the society will bring a drastic change in the society as well as in the minds of the Neighbours and collogue. Which will further promote wellness of the nation and the world we live in.

The ways by which I helped the society in solving problem are: 

Providing food to the stray animals.

Plantation in public parks.

Cleating up local parks.

Executive summary Community programs can expand the opportunities for youth to acquire personal and social assets and to experience the broad range of features of positive developmental settings. The activities I performed in the community service are Providing food to the stray animals, Plantation in public parks, Cleating up local parks. The activities are of great significance as they effected the surrounding a lot, it also developed a mind set of “cleaning our surrounding, helping animals and planting more and more trees” in the minds of the people who acknowledged my work. The first task I performed was cleaning the local park. In day to day use the local parks get dirty because of the kids and the people using it. The major problem of today's population is that they have become mean and self-centered, I noticed this problem when I noticed the mess, we have created in our surrounding (parks). The seats are dirty the park has more plastic wrappers than grasses. As I started cleaning the park the people starting noticing me asked why am I wasting my time on cleaning the local park, they asked me put my efforts elsewhere but after a short conversation they got the motive of my efforts. They appreciated me as well as they knew the importance of keeping the surrounding clean. The second activity I performed was planting trees and flower plants. The local parkers suffer a lot of damage because of great amount of footfall of different age group people. Mostly the young kids play and destroys the plants in the parks. After lot of efforts even the Nagar Nigam is not able to manage all the parks and their plants. So, I took a small step my at least planting few plants in my arras local park for a change. I even taught the kids to take care of the plants rather destroying them so that they can to enjoy its beauty and benefits in the coming future. The third activity I did was feeding the stray dogs. After the Covid19 pandemic the population has been selfconscious and self-concentrated. Very less amount / percent of people is taking care of the stray animals. As the stray dogs are mostly dependent on the food we provide them, many dogs were starving when I tried to feed them. The ate a good amount of food, I got to know their situation so I decided to serve them some of their desired food daily for few days.

Chapter 1 Introduction of community service

Defining Community service is work done by a person or group of people that benefits others. It is often done near the area where you live, so your own community reaps the benefits of your work. You do not get paid to perform community service, though sometimes food and small gifts, like a t-shirt, are given to volunteers. Community service can help any group of people in need: children, senior citizens, People with disabilities, English language learners, and more. It can also help animals, such as those at a shelter, and it can be used to improve places, such as Local Park, historic building, or scenic area as well. Community service is often organized through a local group, such as a place of worship, school, or non-profit organization. You can also start your own community service projects.

Background Community service is a non-paying job performed by one person or a group of people for the benefit of their community or its institutions. Community service is distinct from volunteering, since it is not always performed on a voluntary basis. It may be performed for a variety of reasons.  It may be required by a government as a part of citizenship requirements, like the mandatory "Hand and hitch-up services" for some municipalities in Germany, or generally in lieu of military service or for civil conscription services.  It may be required as a substitution of, or in addition to, other criminal justice sanctions – when performed for this reason it may also be referred to as community payback.  It may be mandated by schools to meet the requirements of a class, such as in the case of servicelearning or to meet the requirements of graduating as class valedictorian.  In the UK, it has been made a condition of the receipt of certain discuss] (see Workfare in the United Kingdom)  In Sweden it is a suspended sentence called "samhällstjänst" ("society service")

Need/Importance Community Service Has a Number of Important Benefits Engaging in community service provides students with the opportunity to become active members of their community and has a lasting, positive impact on society at large. Community service or volunteerism enables students to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as provide a service to those who need it most. These are some of the common benefits of participating in a community service program:

Psychological benefits: Volunteering increases overall life satisfaction and helps you feel good about yourself because you are helping others. It can also help to decreases stress and ease depression.

Social benefits: Volunteering engages students with the community, creates special bonds with the population being served, and increases social awareness and responsibility.

Cognitive benefits : Volunteering helps students enhance their personal knowledge, grow from new experiences, and develop better interpersonal communication skills. Participating in community service not only makes a difference to the organization and people being served, but also makes a difference to every student’s career prospects. Participating in community service activities helps to enhance student resumes by allowing students to obtain work-related skills prior to graduation, builds good references for employers in regards to community involvement, and provides a forum to network with future potential employers. It also helps students develop civic and social responsibility skills and become more aware of what their community needs. You can also make a positive contribution to your community by earning an online degree in nursing, criminal justice or psychology. Forms of community service There are three types of community service and service-learning: direct, in-direct and advocacy. Once a community need is identified, the project activities that are developed will align with one or more of the types. Below are definitions and additional examples of each type of community service and service- learning

Direct:-You can develop direct service activities where students interact with the recipients of service or the physical environment they have targeted for improvement. You and your chapter can volunteer at a food kitchen to serve community mem-bers in need. Or perhaps you can work with your communitysenior center to create an adopt-a-grandparent program that lasts beyond FFA Week.

In-Direct:-If you don’t have the ability to come in direct contact with the beneficiaries of service, you can organize an indirect service activity where students channel resources to a problem but do not interact with those being served. This can include organizing a canned food drive to donate to a food pantry in a neighboring community or participating in a community beautification project.

Advocacy:-It is important to always be an advocate for the issues that inspire you. During advocacy service activities, students bring awareness to an issue and inspire others to take action. Advocacy can also address the underlying causes of a social problem by attempting to influence policymakers or elected officials.

Ways to participate in community service There are hundreds of ways to participate in community service, depending on the skills and interests. Some common community service examples include: 1. Working with schoolchildren: Tutoring children after school, collecting school supplies to donate, planting a school garden. 2. Working with senior citizens: Visiting residents of a retirement centre, delivering meals to senior citizens, driving them to appointments. 3. Improving the environment: Holding a recycling contest, planting trees, creating a new trail at a nature centre. 4. Helping low-income people: Passing out food at a soup kitchen, collecting used clothes to be donated, making first aid kits for homeless shelters.

Chapter 2 Activities conducted

Clean up a local park A park that is clean and well-maintained offers a safe and enjoyable place for people to visit for hiking, Picnicking, sporting activities, or just relaxing. Keeping parks clean can be every visitor’s job, which help contribute to a more welcoming park atmosphere.

My experience A clean place is more likely to give positive vibes. The neighbors really appreciated my efforts. I felt happy after seeing the place clean. It gave me great feeling, I also felt proud. The surrounding was cleaner and gave a more pleasing vibe. The ground was now more appealing. Once the complete park was cleaned it looked a different pleasing view in itself. The elders appreciated me for my work and asked me if I can help them in future to clean the park.

Planting flowers in public area Planting flowers is very important establishing natural beauty in today’s world most of the people can never understand the importance because of busy schedule but flowers are great source of food to insects and birds indirectly it affects humans as well because flowers can be used as medicines too.

Problem faced during planting flowers No one was bothering how the area looked they were so busy in their work that they not even noticed the newly planted flowers, few of them were destroyed within hours.

My experience The place was ugly before the flowers were planted. Small things can change look of an area. More greenery more, breath taking the location feels. Planting few flowers helps the place keep cleaner, as no one wants to destroy a beautiful looking area. No one spit or throw garbage near a beautiful flowered plant.

Feed Food to the Animals My Experience toward this activity (Key learning by doing this activity) The numbers of animals are extinction due to which the cycle of nature is misbalanced. For this, I took a step forward & start caring, feed food to the animals so that they can live for a longer life. The dogs are human best friends but after the Covid19 pandemic everyone is busy in their own lives and are not caring about the society and the stray animals. The dogs are starving and are dying because of it. When I went forward to help them their eyes showed the need of the food which I provided them. I continued feed them for at least 5 days until they were back on track and ready to find their own food.

Conclusion I had definitely learned how to be more patient and be more productive. The journey from the right beginning that is deciding how can I help the community / society to be a better place, what activities will be well suited to my surrounding keep all the facts in mind I figured out few activities, that were Providing food to the stray animals, Plantation in public parks, Cleating up local parks. Each activity had its challenges and impressive outcome. The satisfaction the activity providing me were at different level. Helping out society truly set a different mindset. The day I started the project, it changed my view towards the society, the stray dogs and cleaning the society or society. Seeing the park clean and tidy after I finished my work gave me great felling. I planted flowery plants which gave the public park a different look. Apart from the parks and plantation, I feed the stray dogs. Now I have many more friends in my society. The condition of stray dogs is very vulnerable now a days. I am trying to help as much animals I can. I used to feed the stray dogs before also as they are one of my favorite animals. I am looking forward to help the society in as many ways as possible. As we know small changes make a huge difference. I will even promote the idea of community service as a general responsibility for all .
