Description

1 ***** COMS 101-038 Informative Speech Self-Evaluation I feel that overall my speech about living in New York went pretty well. There were aspects of my presentation that made it strong as well as aspects that I need to improve on. One thing that almost all of my peers said they liked most about my speech was my enthusiasm and confidence toward the topic. I have noticed that during my speeches I have very good facial expressions and I smile the whole time. Many peers also commented saying they liked my visual aids and appreciated my exceptional knowledge about my topic. I am a very well prepared person which helps me to do my very best when it comes to giving my speech. I personally think I also had good eye contact and gestures/movement. In the midst of the things that made my presentation strong, there are still many things that could have made my presentation stronger. One major thing that I could have done differently was talk slower. When I get nervous, I talk at a very fast pace without even realizing it. Many peers addressed this issue and the fact that I say “uh” or “um” too much and I realize that these are a few things I will need to work on. My GSA also pointed out that I neglected to end with something memorable. After reviewing my main points in my conclusion, I did not end with a quote or statistic, which did not make for a very great ending. As a result of learning my peers and GSA’s comments, I now know what I need to do in order to make my next major speech presentation even stronger than this one. I will take specific steps to achieve my goal of eliminating the things that weakened my speech. First, when I practice my speech before my presentation I will make a conscious effort to slow down my speaking pace. I will also pay very close attention to my words and if the word “um” comes out, I will start over. I will keep practicing over and over until “um” is out of my

2 vocabulary! I will also make sure that I end my next speech with something memorable....
