Connecting Statement Each of us at some point in our lives will become parents. As parents we do not always know how to discipline children and think that their actions have no consequences. C. Thesis statement Many people assume that parenthood is an easy job if you have everything you need. However, being a parent is one of the most difficult jobs. D. Preview of main points Authoritarian Permissive Democratic or Authoritative Transition II. Body A. Main point #1 Authoritarian 1. Subpoint #1 Emotional Support a. Supporting subpoint #1 Absolute Obedience b. Supporting subpoint #2 Cannot be themselves 2. Subpoint #2 Excessive Control a. Supporting subpoint #1 Follow the rules b. Supporting subpoint #2 Physical Punishment According to Avidan Milevsky of Department of Psychology states that children with authoritative parents had higher levels of competence because parents have excessive control over their children. They determinate rules and sometimes they use physical punishment if the children are not doing what they want. Also, parent does not let their children be themselves, and they want absolute obedience. For example: Jeremy is supposed to be in bed at 7:30. His parents came to see Jeremy at 8 and he is still awake. Now they are angry and start yelling at him. .

Moglia, Paul’s 2015 book. Psychology and Behavioral Health explain that permissive parents accept their children impulses, desires, and activities. Permissive parents have minimum control over their children. They have strong self-confidence especially when they are in school. In the future, they can have problems with drugs. Unlike the authoritative do not use physical punishment. Example: Clara's children came home at 3 in the afternoon and since then they watch television. Clara arrives at 8 and they still watch television.

As Diana Baumrind (who was a clinical and developmental psychologist) state that democratic style is the best for raising children. Parents have control over the children, at the same time children have chance to be themselves. Children know their responsibilities and duties, and parents always have control over the situation. Example: John likes math. It is his favorite subject and he want to be a Business man. John has the support of his parents.
