Caitlin Rice 9/7/2021 EDG 4410 Classroom Management Questions - Chapter 1 - How to Deal with Feelings that Interfere with Learning A few things I like most about the CPALMS Website are, it is well organized, it is easy to navigate, and each standard has helpful ways to teach that standard. I have explored the CPALMS website before for another class, but I have not looked at the website in a while and I was able to find new things on it. Some of the great things I was able to find were grade specific lessons. Personally, for me I want to teach sixth grade math, so I can go on this website and find math lessons for the sixth-grade level specifically. One of the cool things I found was a sixth grade specific “tool kit.” This tool kit had all subjects for sixth grade, but most important it had assessments, lesson plans, and all the standards in one place. I could very well see myself using the CPALMS website, for me I can see myself using the assessments or the lesson plans in my math class, maybe even showing my class the standards using this website. Doing something like projecting a standard onto the board and having a student read it directly from the website. I think CPALMS can make me a better teacher. I think it can through how structured it is, as well as the well put together lesson plans. I truly feel like I could learn a lot using this website to become a better teacher. The lesson plan I choose is called, “Sailing Through Subtracting Decimals.” It goes along with the standard, “MAFS.6.NS.2.3 Fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multidigit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation.” Something interesting about

this standard is it goes into effect in 2022 as a part of the BEST standards. Key words for this lesson are, “subtracting decimals, decimal, thousandths, subtract, multi-digit, minus, regroup, borrow, regrouping, standard algorithm, sailors, sailing, birds, gulls, decimal places, tenths, hundredths, thousandths, mathematics, interactive, tutorials, eLearning, e-learning, algorithms, subtractions, operations.” One of the reasons I wanted to analyze this lesson is because I felt the “sailing” aspect of the lesson was so interesting as well as super engaging for students. This lesson is targeted for grades fifth or sixth mathematics. The lesson also has an instructional video on how to teach this lesson which I really enjoyed and found very helpful. The video does an amazing job of explaining the lesson to the students as well as making it fun and engaging. The video itself even has a helpful outline of the lesson on the side which is: 1. Welcome 2. Objective 3. Prior Knowledge Part 1 4. Prior Knowledge Part 2 5. Lining Up the Decimal Points to Subtract 6. Practice 1 7. Sail On! 8. Holding Place Value 9. Practice 2 10. Smooth Sailing! 11. Subtracting Decimals 12. Practice 3 13. Sailing Straight Through!

14. Subtracting Decimals with Regrouping 15. Practice 4 16. Practice 5 17. Keep it Going 18. Subtracting Decimals with Regrouping Across Zeros 19. Practice 6 20. Practice 7 21. You Did It! 22. Lesson Review

I copied all these down because I feel they are each a great component of the lesson, and I feel if I include them into each of my lessons, I will be a better teacher for it. This lesson really has shaped and been a great model for me to learn and work off.
