Description

Topic 7 Review This topic review is a tool designed to prepare students for the Final Exam portion, which covers questions from Topic 7. The Final Exam will also include three questions from each of the previous quizzes, so study previous topic reviews as well. Instructors will grade the topic review for completion. Save the topic review to your computer and submit when complete. When completing this review, answers should be in your own words or quoted with quotation marks, and be drawn from one of the course readings (textbook and overview referenced below), or other sources listed in the syllabus. Outside sources, including internet sites, are not acceptable. When quoting and paraphrasing, include all authors' last names for citations that have multiple authors. For quoted citations, be sure to include the page or paragraph number(s). The exam will be graded for accuracy, so take time to seek the correct answers for this topic review before you attempt the exam. Once you start the exam, do not exit the exam until the entire exam is completed. Exiting out of the exam before it is complete may result in a zero grade. Please type your answers below each question. 1. Read the section on The Kingdom of God in Chapter 11 of the textbook and respond to the following: a. Is it a present kingdom or a future kingdom? The Kingdom of God is already present and also coming, already exists and does not yet exist. When Jesus will return, and the restoration of this world to the wisdom of God’s planning will be complete. b. Is it a physical kingdom or a spiritual kingdom? Spiritual kingdom. There have been several attempts to force the kingdom of God into a physical kingdom (Pasley, 2015), but this kingdom is not a place and cannot be defined geographically. c. List two other characteristics found in the reading. God dwells with men in the Kingdom of God. Under His rule, justice, grace, and wisdom will prevail. In the Kingdom of God, Jesus is the King who is the hope and the fullness. People will be free from sin there and live in love, grace, beauty. It is an upside-down Kingdom.

2. Read the section on The Mission of God in Chapter 11 of the textbook and respond to the following: a. How is it related to God’s character? © 2017. Grand Canyon University. All Rights Reserved.

It is the character of God to send and serve, and the character of the mission to restore the sinful world. Another character of God is love, which is manifested in sending his own son among the people to redeem them from their sins.

b. How is God’s mission characterized? The character of God’s mission is to send Himself. The missionary attribute of God is called Missio Dei. God’s missionary action is based on the fundamental nature of the Trinity. God intends to restore the world. God is a self-sending God who sent himself to people to save people. God's mission character is sending and serving.

3. Read the sidebar on Finding Your Purpose in Chapter 11 of the textbook and describe the work ethic presented. What kind of work is best? It is best to work if it is meaningful and one does it with pleasure.

4. List God’s purposes for our lives from Romans 8:28-29 (see Topic 7 Overview). God is love and those who love God live according to God’s purpose. Another and ultimate goal are to conform to the image of Christ, because God’s goal is that when Christ returns, the glorification session will come and all people will be like Jesus.

5. Read the section on Belief and Behavior in Chapter 12 of the textbook and James 2:14-26. What is the relationship between faith and action? Faith is the channel through which one comes to salvation. The relationship between faith and action is best illustrated by the example of Thomas in the Bible in John 20: 24-26. Thomas believed in Jesus, but he did not believe that He was resurrected until he touched Him. He saw Jesus because he believed in Him. Thomas' faith in Jesus led to action. Without action, faith does not exist, man is justified by his deeds (James 2:24). Without action, faith also dies. The most important belief is to believe in Jesus.

6. According to Mark 8:34, is being a disciple of Jesus easy or costly? Costly. Who follows Jesus must deny themselves and take up the cross, as Jesus did.

7. Read the section on The Work of the Holy Spirit in Chapter 12 of the textbook. List two functions of the Spirit in a Christian’s life. The Holy Spirit lives and teaches in every Christian, reminds them of the words of Jesus, and strives to transform man in the image of Jesus. The human body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, which frees them from bondage and reminds them that they were created in the image of God, children of God.

8. According to the Westminster Shorter Catechism quoted in the overview, what is the primary purpose of humanity? The primary purpose of mankind is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

9. Read 1 Corinthians 15:42-57 and list three characteristics of the glorified state. The glorified state: immortal and indestructible, the natural body becomes a spiritual body, lasting, changing. Victory over death.
