LaGrave 1 Daulton LaGrave ENC 2135 Christina Giarrusso 16 April 2016 ENC 2135 Reflection Coming into my spring, I had already taken one ENC course and thought I had already learned everything I needed to learn about writing and composition. After countless years and semesters in an English class, I was beginning to become tired of writing. Something I always considered myself very good at was just not as fun as it used to be. However, once I stepped into ENC 2135, I realized two things. One, I would be writing a ton for at least one more semester. Two, that this was not a normal English class. Thankfully for me though, the writing and learning that I have been a part of has been very interesting. Throughout high school and one semester of college, we touched briefly on genre and rhetorical appeals. However, in this course we went in depth with those two literary terms specifically. In doing this, I realized that genre is much more than just a type of music. It is anything that can be considered a type of art form that speaks to a specific audience. Also, I learned how to correctly use rhetorical appeals such as pathos, ethos, and logos, to persuade readers. After spending a lot of class time going deeper into these two subjects and learning what they really mean, we were given the opportunity to put our new found knowledge into writing. We were given the freedom to write about what we were passionate about as long as it was relevant to the parameters of our paper. Being able to write about something we enjoyed or were avid about really helped grind out the research paper as well. My favorite part of the class was being able to construct three different genres in a way other than writing. I was able to express myself in ways which I did not know I was capable of....
