Annotated Bibliography assignment sheet ENG 112 Kimberly Kendall Drucker Fall 2020...

Description

Annotated Bibliography A bibliography is a list of sources (books, journals, websites, periodicals, etc.) one has used for researching a topic. Bibliographies are sometimes called "References" or "Works Cited" depending on the style format you are using. A bibliography usually just includes the bibliographic information (i.e., the author, title, publisher, etc.). An annotation is a summary AND an evaluation. Therefore, an annotated bibliography includes a citation, summary, and evaluation of each of the sources. Summarize: What are the main arguments? What is the point of this book or article? What topics are covered? If someone asked what this article/book is about, what would you say? The length of your sources will determine how detailed your summary is. Evaluate: After summarizing a source, it is ALWAYS helpful to evaluate it. Is it a useful source? How does it compare with other sources in your bibliography? Is the information reliable? Is this source biased or objective? What is the goal of this source? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As we discussed in “class” (this means the video lesson), please create an Annotated Bibliography using your Social Action Research Project research. This annotated bibliography should consist of at least SIX (6) sources - You should incorporate one book (an eBook will suffice), THREE (3) journal articles from the library’s databases (two of which must come from ProQuest), and ONE (1) mainstream magazine or newspaper article, and once source of your own choosing. Note: If your mainstream source or “your choice source” are biased/unreliable, I will ask you to find another source. You will not be able to use non-factual sources in this essay or annotated bibliography. Wikipedia is not an acceptable source. These sources must be obtained from the CPCC library/databases and must be timely and credible. At least TWO (2) of your articles must come from ProQuest. You may substitute a journal article for the book – but that journal article must also come from ProQuest. An annotated bibliography is different than a Works Cited page. The annotated bibliography cites your source, but then the student provides a two-paragraph annotation: • •

First paragraph should summarize (with in-text citations) the source. Second paragraph should explain how the student plans to use this source or what the student learned from the source.

Your Annotated Bibliography consists of THREE PARTS - a citation, a summary, and an evaluative statement regarding the source. You may combine the summary and evaluative statement into one if you so choose. Use the Annotated Bibliography video as well as the handouts and YouTube video to guide you in the process. I will also post a sample or two for you as well. Your Annotated Bibliography entries should not be lengthy, but each entry should be thorough. Your annotated bibliography should be alphabetized by citation (alphabetically).
