Aaron Jacobs Clauson Compare/Contrast 11/12/19 Who Said You Could Not Compare Apples to Oranges? While many think one can not compare apples to oranges, I am here to logically disprove that statement. I have done almost two decades of research on these fruits and not only have they been in my house consistently, I have eaten them, I have peeled them, and I have drank juice pressed out of their spherical bodies. As many know, the best-selling author of “Outliers”, Malcolm Gladwell writes, to become an expert it takes 10,000 hours of deliberate practice, or 10 years. Therefore, one could declare that I am an expert in the field of fruit consumption. Because of my experience with said research, I can clearly see many similarities and differences between the apple and the orange. To compare the two products of earth, we must look to the similarities. Imagine, one apple in your left hand, and one orange in your right. What do they feel like in your hands? The answer is balls. The shapes of the fruits are the same; both spherical. They both come from their own trees that are similar in size and pump oxygen back into our atmosphere. When the fruit is ripe and ready to be consumed, the fructose in the produce typically make them both have a sweet taste. Lastly, their craziest similarity is the ability to turn from solid dense

objects into a drinkable form that is not only nutritious, but also delicious. The flavorsome juice created from the apple and orange proves the versatility of them and is shared among families globally. In contrast to the likeness of the fruits, there are places where they differ. An apple can come in multiple colors. There are red apples, green apples, and yellow apples. An orange does not share any of those colors. In fact, an orange is orange. In addition, when it comes to things people create from the fruit, apples are more versatile. Humans bake apple pie, brew apple cider, and slurp the sauce of apples by itself or add it on their meal. I have not found orange pie, orange cider, or orange sauce, therefore, apples are more versatile. Geographically, apples are grown more north, in colder climates, while oranges are grown more south in warmer climates. Interestingly enough, along with different growth locations, harvesting time for these fruits differ. Apples are picked from the tree during autumn, however oranges are harvested all throughout the year because of the warm climates. There are several ways to compare and contrast apples and oranges. No matter how they differ, they are undoubtedly both great in several ways. We should embrace the differences and similarities with open arms because of the simple beauty of their characteristics. One may prefer an apple, and one may go for an orange, but both fruits are fantastic regardless of their differences and similarities....
