Description

Brandon Erdman 08/23/18 GENB 3300 Goal Tracker Assignment

1. Career By December 31, 2018, I will have successfully completed my internship (started this August) by consistently showing up on time and completing my assigned work. By December 31, 2019, I will have a job offer for a full-time job from the company I work for by completing my assigned tasks quickly and going above and beyond my duties daily. 2. Family By August 31, 2018, I will begin having dinner with my parents 2-3 times a week. In addition to that I plan on going to my parents’ house each day to help around the house after work or school. 3. Financial By December 31, 2018, I will save 50% of my biweekly paycheck from my internship by having a good budget and practicing responsible spending habits (One of the things I hope to learn from this class). By my rough calculations, I should have saved approximately $3000 by December 31. 4. Intellectual By September 1, 2018, I will attend every class regardless of whether attendance is counted by becoming disciplined to my schedule. In addition, I will read every required reading by successfully managing my time. By October 1, 2018, I will begin reading a book once every week or two (depending on length) by freeing up my schedule in the evenings and reading on my breaks from work and school.

5. Physical By September 1, 2018, I will begin going to the gym 4-5 times a week by waking up early and going before school/work. I used to go during the summer but lately have been busy with work and school.

6. Social Starting September 1, 2018, I will start making more of an effort to initiate contact with my friends by being the first one to say “Hello” or “Good morning”. My friends are usually the ones to ask me to do something with them and I can understand how hard that can be when one is busy. 7. Spiritual By August 31, 2018, I will take ten to fifteen minutes each morning to self-reflect on my short-term goals and make realistic plans to achieve them. By December 31, 2018, I will have camped 2-3 times in nature to regain my appreciation for the outdoors (I camped a lot when I was younger), by planning my weekend efficiently.

Goal Tracker Review: This semester, I met some of my goals while also not meeting a large chunk of them. I’m going to go down my goals and indicate which ones I met and which ones I did not, and why. For the career subsection of my Goal Tracker Assignment, I wrote that I plan on successfully completing my internship and having a full-time offer from a company. I am still in the process of completing my internship (I might continue working there after this semester), but I do not have any full-time offers from companies I would like to work for. I do have interviews with large oil and gas companies, but I do not yet have an offer. I plan on continuing to apply until I land a position I like. My family goal dictated that I would stop by my parents more often and try to eat with them two to three times a week. To some extent I have accomplished this, I stop by my parents more often to eat dinner and help them with chores, but I do not stop by everyday like I planned to. I did not meet my financial goals of saving at least fifty percent of each paycheck from my job. There were unexpected bills to pay and my spending habits weren’t as refined as I thought they would be. I also did not meet my intellectual goals, as I missed

classes when the reward did not meet the hour drive to campus. However, I did attend all my GENB 3300 classes. I have been reading more books but not as many as I had planned. I reached my goal in some extent in terms of my physical and social goals. I go to the gym more than I did before the start of the semester, though it was probably a bit ambitious of me to think I could go four to five days a week. I do make more of an effort in contacting my friends first, but they are becoming increasingly busier due to work. I did not meet my spiritual goal of going camping at all this semester, I plan on going in December with friends from high school. This is the goal I wish I had accomplished more than any other ones, I haven’t gone camping in a long time and I feel that it would make me appreciate the world around me more....
