Description

Gung Ho the Movie: Reflection Paper One of the most entertaining 19’s film I’ve watched which makes me laugh hard and learned something new about turning failure to motivation, culture relativeness and differences. In the film emphases the culture difference between the American and Japanese, on how they interact and manage their work and day-today living. At the beginning of the film Hunt Stevenson went on a meeting in Assan Motor an Automobile Company at Japan wherein he struggles to make the atmosphere livelier because the Japanese are to serious. In this scene I noticed that it’s difficult to deal with other people due of the culture difference. I observe also on how does the individualism of Americans and collectivism of Japanese. Whereas the Americans happy-go-lucky, feel themselves special, and they value the time hangout with their family. Meanwhile the Japanese value the teamwork, work itself and timework as a profit, In the scene were Kazuhiro (the plant manager) telling to the CEO Sakamoto that his colleagues to leave early because his wife is on labor and Ceo ask the man are going to leave then the man said “no, sir”. And then Kazuhiro said “We are insane! Because I have an American idea,” and ask his colleagues to tell to their boss the they can learn things from the Americans. I observed in this scene how ethnocentrism was Sakamoto he is and how powerful the hierarchy it is. Kazuhiro admitted that they can learn something from the American which is their lives is their family and friends not just only the work. In this scene made me realize that you can learned something to another culture when you get involved to their community like Kazuhiro defend the American workers to his Japanese colleague when the accident occurs and the workers are not working because they treat their co-workers as family.

When the Japanese judge the American workers that they’re comes at work late and not given sick leave then it most like the consequences deduct the labor salary per hour or fired them up or worst closed the factory. I’ve realized in this particular situation that the things you do will have a bad or good consequence depending on what culture of management you are in, most likely the praise you will got to the manager is good or bad....
