a) The rest of the student body has seen how much alcohol can be damaging. D. Hazing has always been a problem, 1. and it is not limited to only fraternities. 2. There are other forms of hazing that the fraternity could of had done rather than including alcohol. 3. Maxwell Gruver was not of legal age to consume alcohol, a) the fraternity took advantage of the willing pledges. b) His death could of had been avoided completely if they had not involved alcohol or any other form of drugs. 4. Maxwell Gruver’s blood alcohol content was .495 a) According to Aware Awake Alive, (1) vomiting occurs at .120, and .450 is considered to be a fatal dose because breathing stops (2) The vomiting should of had been a warning to the fraternity members that their hazing was getting completely of hand, (3) Gruver’s blood alcohol content was very much above 0.450. (4) However, my anger is stemmed from the fact that the fraternity had taken advantage of eager freshmen students who wanted to be a part of an organization as a source to make

(a) friends, (b) Connections (c) have a support system. b) Phi Delta Theta is a fraternity focused on members improving each other’s (1) Weaknesses (2) learning about one’s strength (3) developing each member into a greater version of himself. c) Yet the actions of this fraternity branch did not follow the fraternity’s mission. (1) I am glad this fraternity had their charter revoked (2) It is a shame that it took the death of a student for the organization and the school to realize their actions were immature. E. The fraternity has had problems in the past. 1. A year before the incident with Maxwell Gruver, a) the fraternity was suspended for a while due to hazing problems of taking advantage of the pledges such as having the new members (1) purchase chewing tobacco (2) cigarettes for older members (3) arriving at the fraternity house at six in the morning (4) being available to other members all hours of the day. b) The only exceptions were if the pledges were going to be with their

(1) Parents (2) in class (3) had a test the next day. c) However, it seems that fraternity allowed these to be reasons of exemption because authoritative figures would hear of the hazing and take action. d) It seems the fraternity had done so for their own sake rather than for the sake of their new members. e) With the history of the fraternity, the school should of had enforced stricter rules on them and had them under supervision.
