Topic and Research Question Topic: For my historical event analysis, I have chosen to focus on brutality between early American settlers and Native Indians. American settlers and Native Indians have done extreme torture, abuse, and killings towards each other. War between both attributed to many losing their lives. Research Question: What were the reasons that had the American settlers and the Native Indians wage war on each other for years? Preliminary Writing Plan Historical event that is significant to my topic of American Settlers and Native Indians is the Bear River Massacre in Franklin County, Idaho. The is the worst massacre of Native Indians in American’s history. The torture and suffering done to the Native Americans by the American Army Settlers was horrendous. Why made the American Settlers massacre and torture Native Indians in Idaho? Why is this considered the bloodiest massacre in American history? Researching to understand what would make an army of American Settlers to massacre so many Indians. Other aspects is who from the American side ordered the massacre? Researching on the aftermath is an interest such as how many Indians survived? The information on the secondary source from Charles River Editors of “The Bear River Massacre” is informative of the Native Indian Tribe the Shoshone. This source gives insight to the accounts of the Indians suffering by the Americans. Colonel Patrick Connor oversaw the American military that killed and did inhumane treatment to the Native Indians.

Another secondary source is the Indian tribe the Shoshone and Colonel Patrick Connor. This depicts the insight on how Colonel Connor strategized the American settler’s army towards the native Indians. The movement depicts how the American settlers reached the tribe without much warning resulting in massacre of Shoshones. Thesis Statement

The American Settlers have historically waged war on the Native Indians, from the first boat to the continent of North America. War ravished the countryside throughout the years. Land At the UtahIdaho boundary line by the Bear River in January 29, 1863, an army was being prepared to attack Shoshone Native Indians. Army leader Colonel Patrick Connor and his American soldiers massacred, tortured, and raped hundreds of Shoshone Indians. “Connor is reported to have said “nits make lice,” meaning that it was his intention to kill all Indian children and babies before they had a chance to grow to adulthood. “(Parry, M., 2000. pp. 25-72)”. The Bear River Massacre was a horrendous historical event that was finally recognized by the United States National Register of Historic Places as a landmark.
