2 Writing Plan Progress 1 Topic: For my historical event analysis, I have chosen to focus on The Trail of Tears, and how it has had an impact on future generations of Native Americans. The trail of Tears was the forced relocation during the 1830s of Eastern Woodland Indians of the Southeast Region of the United States. The Trail of Tears became the symbol that signifies how American law makers felt about the Native Americans.

Research Question: How has the Trail of Tears impacted Americans today? How does the Trail of Tears impact us today? Has the Trail of Tears changed how future lawmakers think of the Native Americans today?

Search Terms and Sources Search terms that I have used in my research so far include: Trail of Tears, Andrew Jackson’s Presidency, Indian Territory, and Indian Removal Act (1830). One secondary source I have chosen is “The New Trail of Tears: How Washington is Destroying American Indians” by Naomi Schaefer Riley. I found this book by researching the Shapiro Library, I read this book due to the title alone at first. Once I began to read this book, I realized it takes into effect how the Native Americans were treated and how they were looked at by the government.
