ABOUT THIS UNIT

The unit has the dual aims of allowing you to learn and explore concepts of mental disorders, and also of understandin appreciation of the stigma and impact of such disorders on the lives of those affected. In so doing, this unit focuses on providing an introduction to abnormal and clinical psychology from a descriptive, theoretical and experimental perspec In particular, we will focus on theories of psychology that integrate multiple perspectives - a so-called multidimensiona integrative perspective. Topics covered will include models and theories of abnormal psychology with emphasis on an integrative approach to understanding psychopathology; diagnosis and classification; as well as an examination of the major classes of disorder as the anxiety, mood, and schizophrenia-related disorders. Where appropriate, there will be a discussion and evaluatio therapeutic interventions and ethical issues pertaining to intervention.

Unit development in response to student feedback

Deakin University, Faculty of HPS308 Psychopathology - Trimester strongly encouraged to provide constructive feedback for this unit when eVALUate opens (you will be emailed a link).

In previous versions of this unit, students have told us that these aspects of the Unit have helped them to achieve the learning outcomes: ●

"The assignment instructions were very clear. Richard has done a great job of outlining important aspects that nee to be addressed in the assignments. - The assignment feedback video was also helpful. The strengths and weakne how students went were outlined. - The seminars were also organised and the tutors were helpful." "The online lectures to help revise the weekly content were a big help for exam prep and overall understanding of concepts that were a little more complex. Also, the example assignments of previous students were a big help wit literature review as it was a new style of writing for me" "The step by step instructions in the assignment guides were really useful. It helped break down the tasks involved make it much more manageable."

They have also made suggestions for improvement and so this is what we have done:

● ● ●

Made amendments to the unit to prepare for fully online delivery. Provided extra provision for student consultation via live chat. One of the main comments is that the amount of material required to learn is quite high - however, this should be alleviated with the open book nature of the final assessment given the required adaptations due to online teachin

If you have any concerns about the Unit during the trimester, please contact the unit teaching team - preferably early i trimester - so we can discuss your concerns, and make adjustments, if appropriate.
