The National Youth Advocate program is a program offered in many different states in 65 locations in these states, they are in: Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, Georgia, Illinois, South Carolina, Florida, Kentucky, and Louisiana. The services they offer are to youth and families in the areas they are located. The program offers to individual and families a list and sub list of each specific programs. i. The Fairmont Community Development Partnership is a “private, non-profit organization.” Their mission is to “promote community and economic development; neighborhood revitalization and affordable housing” for low-income areas and individuals. They assess individual’s quality of life and help those in need with low income so they can have an affordable safe and nice housing. They also assess businesses in the local community and help them promote local businesses flourish. i. FCD offers assistance to low-income families. ii. Community Service that also connects families in need with other community agencies for assistance. iii. The Disability Action Center is a center that assists individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. They promote independence and to help those reach a level of empowerment and success. Their programs enhance “Career Readiness, Experience IT Co-op, Education and Training, Health and Wellness, Life Skills and Independent Living, Reading and Literacy, assist in computer technology, Self-Advocacy, Fitness and Exercise, Information and Referral, Play works Therapy, Special Olympics, Rural to Urban Agricultural Learning, and Social and Recreational opportunities.” They promote families in how to show support for their IDD individual and promote the People First program to advocate for those that have a disability and need direction, support, and community awareness that these problems even exist. 4.) MCCAC is a program that supports children and their families specifically by advocating and ending abuse. The program has a team that investigates the abuse with law enforcement investigators, prosecutors, child protective service workers, medical professionals, mental health professionals, and victim advocates. The Advocacy Center states that the “multidisciplinary approach significantly increases the likelihood of a successful outcome in court and long-term healing for the child.” Once the law enforcement investigates, the CPS worker ensures the child’s safety. They the investigation begins with forensic interviews, evidence collection, photos, witness interviews, medical treatments, and exams, and all the evidence is considered prior to the case moving into the justice system in court. 5.) b. http://fris.org/; West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information and Services (WV FRIS) | Information and Resources for Victims of Sexual Violence and Stalking c. WV Foundation for Rape and Information and Services is a program and service that is the state’s sexual assault coalition or rape crisis center. WVFRIS states they “work with the rape crisis centers and other allied professionals to develop and strengthen intervention and prevention programs in the State that address sexual violence and stalking.” They also address human trafficking and dating violence due to it involving sexual assault, violence, and stalking. Not only do they provide information about exact abuse and meaning, but they also provide safety planning, tips, and a sexual assault response team that has professionals that will immediately service the individual or individuals and give immediately response with this team. The team prioritizes the victim and ensures accountability against the offender. Prevention is their most important, to give information and education to prevent any type of situation from happening. 6.) United Way is a worldwide organization that is local to Fairmont, WV residents to utilize their programs for education, income (financial stability), and health. The health program helps low-income families to access “substance abuse programs, receive health care, and access to nutritious foods. The education program to ensure children get a good start in school offerings, teenagers have what they need to learn, and young adults can thrive and have services to helping them find a good job in the market. Lastly, their financial stability helps with mentoring with budget and financial workshops, providing job-skills and training, housing security, and getting those families or individuals suffering to get back on track financially.
