Iraiz Hernandez Tuesday, October, 16,2018 Composition I am from the city that never sleeps, with skies where stars never shine, but where dreams come true I am from the tallest tower, from the smallest nest from the biggest fall possible, And from the best view, With all the more reason to fly I’m from a place with no name, No sanctuary, no smooth pavement Every excruciating footstep finally being rewarded Call it Brooklyn, too close by the sea, But not close enough to be a Hurricane’s victim I’m from a tree that hasn’t been watered, The soil isn’t fertile Yet, I, a flower Still, bloom from adversity Beaming with colors Artificial light from the street’s lamppost From the underground platforms, Heat coming from every direction, Dirty air blowing in my face everytime a steal beast speeds by And from the crisp, cold air Howling in the heart of Time Square Drowned by the street performances And by the bright lights coming from above I’m from culture shock and endless hussle From bridges and skyscrapers Fashion and Art Zoos and Malls In the heart of where I belong...
