Assignment tasks Issue date Return date Issue date 2nd chance (if applicable) Within a couple of years, you will find yourself in a managing position at a company in the Gardening & Landscaping business. In this position, it is important to have sufficient knowledge and skills to make good landscape and garden designs. To achieve this goal, you are taking part in classes according to the BTEC Unit 28 Construct and maintain decorative landscape features. During the lectures you will be provided with tools and background knowledge on construction and maintenance. This theory will be practised during basic field assignment tasks.

Assignment tasks In the following section, we will explain to you what to do and when to do it. Pass grades Your task is to design a naturalistic or formal rock feature and a pond or water feature (P1). Your drawing is on scale on a A3 paper and specifies the way all materials are constructed. Alternatively, you draw in software that works accurately on scale. You list your materials using Microsoft Excel and specify the materials, sizes and number of units needed. Included in your design is an advise (1/2 A4) for the maintenance of the garden feature. In pairs, you construct a garden feature including a formal rock feature and a water element (P3) according to plan. During your work, you regard the health and safety of all the students on site. Your work is efficient and you make effective use of the right tools and materials. When on the practise site you wear working boots. Evidence for this task includes:  A design of a garden feature include rock and water element (P1);  A plant list of alpine and water plants with characteristics and requirements (P2);  Photo or video presentation of the practical assignment constructing rock and water features (P1, P3);  Observation sheet, signed by assessor (P1, P3);  Written maintenance advise (P4). Merit grades You must fulfil the pass grades plus: M1: You add 2 detailed cross-sectional drawings (A3) to your design. The drawings are on scale and have sufficient detail to enable third parties to construct your rock feature. The crosssections represent a relevant technical detail and do not cover the whole original design. M2: Include a plant list with at least 10 species suitable for the design. On the list you enter the Latin names, plant requirements or instruction, height, flowering colour, flowering season. Explain why these are suitable plants for this design. Distinction grades You must fulfil the merit grades plus: D1: produce two 3-dimensional drawings (A2) that depict your designed features and their surroundings.

Perennial aquatic or helophyte with milky rhizomes, stout overground stems gradually tapering upward, leaf blade striate, leaf sheath embracing stem, male and female inflorescences closely joined, pericarp with long brown spots. Flowering and fruiting period may - August

The plants are all green and up to 1.5 meters tall. Leaf blade ovate-oblong, 10-30 cm long, up to 10 cm wide. Racemes sparsely flowered; Slightly above the leaf blade; Flowers red, solitary; Bracts ovate, green

Wolf tail grass likes the growth environment with sufficient illumination, be able to bear drought, be able to bear dampness, also can bear half shade, and cold resistance is strong. Suitable for warm and humid climate conditions, when the temperature reaches above 20 degrees, the growth rate accelerated. Drought resistance, lodging resistance, no pests and diseases

Firstly. We use wood to make the sand in a same level. Secondly. We start put on the stone and make a shape of the pavement. To make sure the stone in a same level. We need a hammer and electrical level. When we make a pole .first we dig a hole and the level rely on the pavement.

characteristic and growth requirement. Lotus Lotus like wet afraid of dry, like the relative stability of the still water, do not love the gap between the water. Pond planting should be carried out in a water depth of 0.3m ~ 1.2m. Initial planting of lotus root should be carried out in a water level of 0.2m ~ 0.4m. At the depth of 1.5m, only a few floating leaves can be seen, but no standing leaves can be seen, and flowers cannot bloom. If standing leaves are submerged for more than 10 days, they will be in danger of extinction. Asparagus Asparagus (Asparagus setaceus (Kunth) Jessop) is also known as the Chinese pine, Asparagus Asparagus, Asparagus, mountain grass, chicken and ganoderma. Climbing plants up to 3-6 m high. Roots slightly fleshy, slender. Stems heavily branched, subbranched smoothly. Rosa Rosa chinensis Jacq.) : known as the queen of flowers, also known as the "moon red", is an evergreen, semievergreen shrub, flowering four seasons, generally red, or pink, Page 13 of 15 Version 2.0 Date: 26-09-2018

occasionally white and yellow, can be used as ornamental plants, but also as medicinal plants, also known as the rose. Rose sex is fond of sunshine, more be able to bear or endure cold, be able to bear or endure drought, be fond of ventilated cool climate, appropriate growth temperature is 15-25 degrees. Rose has strong adaptability and is not strict to the soil. It grows well in fertile neutral or slightly acidic light loam。

P4 The maintenance of the rock garden and pool. the maintenance of pool The maintenance is simple. In most climates, hardy plants can be placed normally. In cold climates, however, hardy plants should sink to the deepest part of the pond (about 0.9 meters or more) to prevent freezing. In extremely cold areas, the bottom of the pond can freeze. Tropical plants must be kept indoors in any climate except the warmest. Depending on the season, it's normal for the water in your garden to turn a rich shade of green, especially in early spring, when nutrient-rich fresh water is added, and algal blooms (called "splashes") increase rapidly. If the pond is in a medium equilibrium (a large number of oxidized plants can reduce carbon dioxide levels, enough floating or aquatic plants can absorb nutrients and shelter algae, fish and scavengers consume algae, and some water cycles), the algae will continue for a short time. But don't expect the water in your garden pond to be perfectly clear. The maintenance of rock garden For nutrition balance. Gypsum can be added to your garden soil. This soft white or gray material is rich in calcium and can replace the sodium in clay. Gypsum promotes soil improvement and crop growth by reducing the amount of exchangeable sodium in clay. For stone. Check the stone situation twice a month. Because the stone will move after the big rain or something else. So for security. We need keep maintenance the stone quality and position.
