Description

PARALLEL (PROGRESSIVE) DIMENSIONING; ● When number of dimensions are measured in the same direction from a common feature ie surface of the part, then the method of indicating all the dimensions from the same feature is called parallel dimensioning. The dimension lines are parallel to each other and equally spaced. ● All dimensions are shown from a common reference line. Obviously, all these dimensions share a common extension line. This method is adopted when dimensions have to be established from a particular datum surface.

CHAIN (CONTINUOUS) DIMENSIONING; ● Chain dimensioning is when each single dimension is placed currently adjacent to the next dimension without any gap between the dimensions line. This method should only be used if tolerance accumulation is not going to affect the function of part. ● All the dimensions are aligned in such a way that an arrow head of one dimension touches tip-to-tip the arrow head of the adjacent dimension. The overall dimension is placed outside the other smaller dimensions....
