Description

The University of Western Australia DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS MATH1011: MULTIVARIABLE CALCULUS FIRST SEMESTER 2021

Exam Information Please read this document very carefully !! • The exam will be two hours long and will contain 19 questions giving a total of 100 marks for the paper. The first 10 questions are multiple choice questions, each worth 2 marks. The remaining 9 questions require comprehensive written solutions. Full marks to the non-multiple choice questions will be awarded for complete and fully justified answers. • The exam is worth 57% for the final result in this unit. • Answers to the 10 multiple choice questions should be given on the multiple choice Answer Sheet that will be given to you with the exam paper. Please use a PENCIL ONLY to mark your answers on the Answer Sheet. It is desirable to have an eraser as well, so that you can correct your answers if necessary. Answers for the multiple choice questions on the exam paper WILL NOT be marked, only those on the Answer sheet will be taken into account. There is only one correct answer to each multiple choice question. • Answers to the non-multiple choice questions are to be written directly onto the examination paper, in the space provided under each question. Please write clearly and with a PEN, NOT A PENCIL. Illegible work will not be marked. • Approved calculators with stickers are permitted; books and notes are not. • A Formula Sheet will be provided with the exam paper. See the LMS page of the unit to check what exactly the Formula Sheet contains. • All the material discussed in lectures and practical classes is examinable. • When revising for exams it is a good idea to practise writing out full solutions, rather than just rough sketches of answers, or even less fruitfully, reading through other people’s solutions. Remember that most of the marks are given for correct working. If the marker cannot follow your reasoning you will not receive credit for it. Read the exam questions carefully and be sure to do what is required. Do not panic. If you have understood the lectures and worked fairly steadily throughout the semester you are likely to be fine. The exam is not designed to puzzle you but to let you show us what you have learned. • Deferred examinations: the granting of these is a School responsibility. If you cannot sit the MATH1011 exam at the scheduled time you will need to contact the allocated course adviser in your School. 1

• See the LMS web page of the unit for some past exam papers in related first year units and their solutions. • Getting help: You may also ask your lecturer for help. It may be best to do so in person as often email is not a satisfactory medium for discussion of mathematics. However you will have to contact the lecturer in advance (e.g. via e-mail) and make an appointment. The lecturers’ coordinates are: Prof. Luchezar Stoyanov, e-mail: [email protected], phone 6488 3393 Room 109, Mathematics and Statistics Building. Luchezar Stoyanov MATH1011 Unit Coordinator
