PURPOSE OF MEDICATION

Expected Pharmacological Action blocks the effects of histamines, inhibitory effect on the chemoreceptors trigger zone in the medulla, antimetic properties, diminished nausea/vomiting , sedation

Therapeutic Use various allergic reaction treatment, treatment for motion sickness, preop sedation, treatment/prevention for nausea and vomiting, adjunct to anestisia and analgesia

Complications Neuroleptic malignant syndrome, confusion, disorrientation, suppressed respirations, bradycardia, constipation, drug induced hepatitis, HTN, hypotension, tissue necrosis at IV site if infiltration, blood dyscrasias, tinnitus, fatigue, sedation, nervousness, tachycardia, dry mouth

Contraindications/Precautions hypersensitivity, comatose patients, bladder neck obstruction, alcohol, angle closure glaucoma, use cautiously in IV infussion, cardiovasuclar disease, imparied liver/renal function, avoid in pts with intolerance, caution if lactating/breast feeding mothers.

Interactions CNS depressants, opioid analgesics, alcohol, antihistamines, sedative/hypnotics, antipyschotics, anticholinergic properties, antihistamines, antidepressants, atropine, haloperidol, phenothiazines, MAO inhibitors, phenothiazines, quinidine, disopyramide

Evaluation of Medication Effectiveness relief from allergic reaction, prevention of motion sickness, sedation , relief from nausea and vomiting.
