Difficulty swallowing Blood in vomit Bloody stools Vomiting with constipation Weight loss Sustained alteration of bowel habit

Oral Thrush Summary: Exists in mouth, GIT and vagina Symptoms:  White raised patches on oral mucosa  Tendency to bleed  Can be painful (baby refuse to feed)

Constipation Summary: Symptoms:  Decrease in frequency of bowel movements  Hard stools  Straining Ask: Wh t i lb l

Dyspepsia Summary: AKA: Indigestion, heartburn, wind Symptoms:  Epigastric discomfort after eating/drinking  Feeling of fullness  Heartburn – burning in windpipe/stomach  Trapped wind  Nausea/vomiting Diarrhoea: Increased frequency of bowel movements and changes in consistency IBS Summary: Symptoms:  Bloating (main)  Abdominal pain  Alternating bouts of constipation/diarrhoea  Rectal fullness  Non-colonic symptoms: nausea, back pain, urinary frequency, urgency

OSCE – OTC (Gastrointestinal) Station Referrals: Indigestion – Referral Caution: GP Referral – 1st time dyspepsia aged 45+ Refer: Endoscopy - >55 years and alarm signs or persistent unexplained symptoms  Persistent vomiting  Loss of appetite  Difficulty swallowing  Feeling lump in throat IBS – Referral Persisting symptoms >2 weeks or changed symptoms:  Blood in stool  Not had IBS diagnosis  Fever  Weight loss...
