Purpose Plan Worksheet For this assignment, complete Parts 1, 2, and 3. Use the GCU website and the Student Success Center to find answers. Part 1: Academics

In which COE specific program of study are you enrolled?

Elementary Education although I may do math unsure right now

Identify the required courses in your program.

ELM-200, ELM 210, SPD-200, ELM 357, ELM 250, ELM 305, ELM 470, ELM 250, ELM 480, ESL 440N, ELM 361, HIS 144, MAT 151, SPD 200, Mat 150, ELM 360, ELM 305

In addition to Student Teaching, which courses in your program require practicum/field experience hours (Refer to course descriptions on the GCU.edu website)?

Methods and Strategies for teaching Mathematics, Foundational Literacy Skills, Creating and Managing Engaging Learning Environments, Methods Strategies for teaching English Language Arts, Fostering Student Engagement, Methods of Structured English Immersion for Elementary Education, Instructional Methods and Strategies, Survey of Special Education: Mild to Moderate Disabilities, Instructional Planning and Assessments for Elementary Teacher Candidates, Methods and Strategies for integrating social studies and the arts, Foundational Literacy Skills and Phonics

Which courses do you anticipate being the most challenging? Why?

I think the Methods of structured English Immersion for Elementary Education will be the most difficult because I am not good at English and the writing of it.

What skills or resources will you

need for this program of study and how will you acquire them?

talking points if plan doesn’t go well.

After exploring the resources on the COE page within the Student Success Center, which resources will be the most helpful to you?

Having access to lesson plan templates I can use them as a map to give me an idea of what to put in my lesson plan. Also having the teacher candidate development center is also helpful I can connect with fellow teacher candidates and get ideas from them just like the online classroom.

Part 2: Spirituality How does the One Foundation video (https://vimeo.com/282365322) discuss the integration of faith, learning, and work at GCU? (https://www.gcu.edu/why-gcu/christianidentity-and-mission)

Having the Christian faith as the foundation of everything I do is essential. So, for me it isn’t integrating that into learning but navigating where I am or where I am trying to go when it comes to learning if that makes sense.

How do you plan to integrate your personal or spiritual growth into your academic journey?

I was doing that to begin with because I try to be as honest with everything, I do so I will continue to incorporate my Christian faith into academics.

Consider the following list of GCU spiritual resources. Discuss how you might use some of the resources during your academic career.

I may use some of the College of Theology blogs for Sunday school lessons that I may discuss at the church I will be teaching young children. I may use the chapels and Trending faith videos for the same reason.

Part 3: Practicum/Field Experience Complete the following based on information found under “Program and Course Resources” on the College of Education page in the Student Success Center. 

Click on Explore More Videos and you will find the Overview of Practicum Field Experience Requirements for (Ground/Arizona students) or (Online/Non-Arizona students), you will need to log in to watch the video. After watching “Overview of Practicum/Field Experience Requirements” for (Ground/Arizona students) or (Online/Non-Arizona students),” provide three examples of practicum/field experience requirements.

1. fulfilling at least the minimum number of hours need for practicum 2. dressing appropriately 3. practicum field experience placement

While under the Program and Course Resources, click on Practicum Field Experience, read the “Practicum/Field Experience Tip Sheet.” Describe how you would introduce yourself to a potential classroom teacher. Hello, my name is Darnell Houston, and I am a student attending GCU and would like to gain practicum/filed experience when your schedule allows in your classroom if possible.

For one of the courses in your program listed in the Practicum/Field Experience Fact Sheet, list the required hours and setting. Think about a potential site where you might complete the required hours and provide details on how that site will provide a valuable experience. Methods and Strategies for integrating social studies and the arts. Practicum/field experience hours: 15. Fingerprint clearance required. Setting is either classroom social studies class or art class/auditorium. I will get with a FEC to see which school I can go to obtain experience in this class or ask if I can go to a specific school near me.

After learning about the Participant Roles in the “Clinical Field Experience Handbook Initial Licensure Programs,” list the five participant roles. Describe how each might help you successfully complete your practicum/field experience requirements.

1. Candidate fellow students in program with me will help by giving pointers on what to expect, what to do and bounce ideas off. 2.Classroom Teacher/Mentor Teacher gives me a model good or bad on what to do when in a classroom environment to allow to students to learn and what may be preventing learning. 3. Course Instructor GCU instructors in classes who are teachers can draw from experience they have in the field. 4.Field experience counselor (FEC) helps find institutions, fingerprint clearance, confirms eligibility fir clinical field experience/practicum conditions. 5. Teacher Placement Counselor allows for me to go to school at their suggestion to arrange student teaching.

Reflection: In 75-100 words, reflect on the following: 

Describe what leadership/management strategies (ex. setting goals, managing a schedule, addressing student needs, etc.) you will add to your toolbox to further your success in future practicum sites and in your future classroom. (1.3) Being a more vocal leader will be beneficial. I am already a hands-on leader. I can show anyone how to do something but that doesn’t work all the time. Being able to keep my head on a swivel and watching what is happening in the classroom overall making sure students needs are met what ever they may be. Being able to stay on task but be pliable to adjust if needed because not every class I teach will be at the same place. Describe how you can engage with various GCU communities, virtually or face-to-face, to enhance your networking capabilities. (1.4) This is difficult for me because I am not much of an outgoing person if someone isn’t reaching out to me then I won’t engage in a meaningful way so that can hurt me in networking, but I will work on that and need to work on that because I won’t be able to be a good teacher otherwise. I can learn from seasoned or young teachers on what to do in person or virtually I can take notes or just observe and learn something.
