HR6004: REFLECTION PART FOR THE MARKETING PLAN DISSERTATION The marketing plan module has equipped me with precious academic skills and knowledge. The lectures i have received has been been incredibly crucial and will be highly useful when applying them in the future employment opportunities and in the marketing work environment and career path. This project has helped me learn the value of carrying out an environmental scan, and how heavily these factors influence the functionality of the business world. Thorough research is needed to conduct the environment and market analysis. I applied this is in the project when i had to analyze the sun care market. The process of analysing the information and data allowed me to notice key market trends that are currently existing in the market , as well as any upcoming patterns. Furthermore, this enabled me to be able to come up with assumptions and judgements about any rising trends that may occur due to minor changes that can occur in the market. Investigating target markets enabled me to improve my analysing skills in relation to data such as statistics, studies,surveys and reports. This is a vital skill to have and demonstrate, specifically in the working environment where you deal with information like that on a daily basis. The marketing plan allowed me to activate my analytical mindset, as I had to to classify problems and come with suitable solutions which would improve the situation. This task allowed room for my creative energy to thrive, especially when it came to coming up with marketing strategies and new ideas to gain project objectives I set. The opportunity to use creativity in the business context allowed me to develop the ability of thinking outside the box and this will be further developed in the working environment when it comes to tasks which require the creative and innovative mindset for the organisation’s progression. Time management is something i struggled with. The marketing needed to be organised to allow myself to dedicate time into researching detail and acquiring an extensive amount of knowledge for the topic. Once I managed to grasp a better timetable it was incredibly helpful as it provided a better understanding about many components surrounding The Hawaiian Tropic, the sun care market, growing trends and the shopping behavioural studies of UK consumers. This was very insightful and useful throughout the whole process. The time management and punctuality skill will be something paramount and is emphasized a lot in the work environment. Meeting deadlines in the allocated time is remarkably

important, specifically in the workplace as failure to meet deadlines can ruin an employee’s reputation. If working in a team you missing the deadline can affect your team’s progress leaving them with less time as well. I have struggled with time management for other projects but on this projects i pushed myself in a higher dimension through process of personal deadlines so that each section of the marketing plan gets enough time to be done properly. To work in the marketing field you need knowledge of how to create a marketing plan. The confidence I have from this project has pushed me into another realm of marketing. Before embarking the project I lacked confidence in developing a good plan, however by surrounding myself with the right resources and materials, the barrier is gone. I now feel the power to approach the task of creating a marketing plans. Nonetheless the number one challenge was producing smart objectives. Writing objectives that are smart has ensured that the market plan was specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time managed. This project has given me a better clarity on this issue. I have never created a budget sheet on excel and this project was first attempt in doing so. This enabled me to learn how to produce spreadsheets and sure the plan consisted of a clear and precise structure that allows information to be easily readable. This was difficult to conduct , but after time passed, with the help of videos on the topics it became easier to grasp. The ability to adapt and learn skills is skill which separates employees in organisations. Doing something I have not done shows employers that I can be flexible in area they put me. Working on the budget on excel provided me with encouragement to learn new programs.

Being an employee in the marketing field its paramount to have knowledge on the target audience you are aiming to reach. This will enable you to find the best strategies that will effectively reach the target audience. For example Hawaiian Tropic is aimed at women. I had conduct research and look for relevant information on their habits and behaviours when it comes to the sun cream products. This is beneficial as you need the ability to research groups of consumers in the marketing work environment.

The ability to conduct a competitive analysis is another skill I have gained. The process of conducting a competitive analysis for a company, product and brand is a key necessity in the work environment. I am very confident in doing this. I conducted research to find out the competitors that Hawaiian Tropic brand has and was able to see the differentiation to factors like popularity, price and quality. It was a vital process for the plan as understanding the market impacts the downfall or rise of companies. The module has also taught me the power of independence on other projects it was all group work but on this particular one it was individual work just like

the normal workplace requires.

Overall the module has supplied informative information and a great confidence full of wisdom and understanding when it comes to marketing. All this will be vital in employment as it has provided me with the skills I didn’t have and that are required for a marketing job role. To overcome the challenges and think outside my capacity has been rewarding and I strongly believe that by doing this marketing plan I am now ready to be an employee of a great marketing organisation....
