McKenzie Hutchins Rel 275 Section 009 26 September 2018 A Reservoir of Living Water- Response In David A. Bednar’s February 2007, BYU devotional titled “A Reservoir of Living Water”, he compared water, being the most valuable substance in the world to the gospel of Jesus Christ. I think that is one of the best comparison’s he could have made. Just like water, the gospel is an essential part of our life. Not only is the water vital, it can also be very enticing. One of the main focal points of the talk was to partake of the Living Water in the spiritual reservoir, and he gave many examples of how to open the gates to partake of it. When I began to think of my own ideas I couldn’t help but reflect back to the primary and seminary answers, but it goes further in depth than that. We are not only supposed to read the scriptures and pray about them, it is vital that we find connections, patterns and themes. I really appreciated how Bednar mentioned the blessings of reading The Book of Mormon from the beginning to the end and after we have done that we can begin to study by topic and search for truth. Our ultimate goal should be to partake of a consistent flow from the reservoir of living water rather than sporadic consumptions. We are so lucky to have resources including, access to the scriptures, conference talks, gospel magazines, etc. right at our fingertips to help conveniently strengthen our understanding and to fulfill our ultimate goal. I think we need to take advantage of the resources provided to us more frequently. I also really enjoyed how Bednar changed the meaning of “understanding” and stated that, “what we know in our minds is confirmed true in our hearts by the gift of the Holy Ghost” is essentially

what understanding is, rather than cognitive reasoning. We gain understanding through revelation and will result from prayerfully reading the scriptures with questions in mind. I really enjoyed this assignment along with the inscription letter and study journal because it has helped in keeping me motivated to prioritize what is actually important. Bednar emphasized the importance of Lehi’s dream and the iron rod and I have a testimony of this. I know if we partake of the living water, hold tight of the iron rod and continually try to progress on this path we will make it back to Him....
