Description

SCI-100 Module 7 Scientific Development Kristi Carson

The main topic of my article is the evidence of key processes in brain development. The article describes the patterns neurons need to form to create the correct patterns to develop a healthy brain development. The failure of this process could result in brain defects such as autism, schizophrenia, or other neuropsychiatric disorders. The neocortex is the outer area of the brain that is responsible for the development of cognitive functions such as movement, language, and decision making. The neocortex is a highly organized structure of the brain that includes 6 layers of neuron formations. Scientists discovered that there is a two-step process needed to generate the new cell formation. Neurons need a protein called Zeb2. Without the 2-step process and the Zeb2 protein, the brain can develop incorrectly causing brain deformations. The discovery of these key processes needed in brain development is important to me. I come from a family of children with autism, and others with mental delays of different sorts. Learning about what is needed in the brain development process is important and intriguing to me. I

want to learn about how early we can discover the incorrect formation of neuron patterns in the brain or what is needed to prevent them. I believe the information discovered in the brain formation process would be helpful to all. If this is discoverable while still in the womb a mother might have a better sense of what the future holds with her baby....
