Description

Garlit 1! Angelica Garlit Professor Pafford ARTH 15-02 10 Mar 2017 Essay 2: Self-Portrait and Selfie

Pictured above is the selfie I had created for the purposes of this assignment. I had taken it using my iPhone while inside my dorm room, standing in front of my window at a time in which natural lighting would be at its peak. I had also edited the picture to be slightly clearer and adjusted the red mid tones and blue low tones. I felt this allowed the most flattering hues to be seen. The overall colors of the main focus, that being my face, are quite warm, from the blush on my cheeks to my “selfie smile”. These features contrast very much with my darker textured hair, neutral attire, and dimmer background. In the background, you can see a mix of me and my roommates’ clothing that add more dimension to the image. To the other side of my head you can

Garlit 2! see another closet, this time with its white door closed, thus adding more color to everything besides the main focus. There are many shapes and lines within my selfie. Immediately after my face being noticed, I feel that the next thing that is noticed is my hair. It it tied up yet still draping over my shoulders constituting for much of the darkness found in the image. It also takes somewhat of a wavy, curly structure adding for more variety in lines compared to the architecture of the walls and closets behind me. The patterned headband I am wearing is also very attention-grabbing due to its brightly contrasting colors against my brunette hair. The folds of fabric on my sleeve are also easily seen, suggesting that the picture was taken facing directly in front of the light source. The makeup that I’m wearing can be described as somewhat of a natural and “more awake” version of myself. I usually don’t wear as much makeup on a daily basis, but I usually strive for something that disguises how little sleep I get. I’m a firm believer that when you look good, you feel good. My facial expression is very welcoming and pleasant, which is how I want to be perceived by people when they first see me. I feel that my hair is an accurate representation of how I feel and go about things. I’m very go with the flow, carefree, and just hate doing my hair....
