I. Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to: a. identify the different characteristics of materials that make it useful and harmful,

b. give the importance of different materials whether they are useful or harmful; and c. classify the different materials whether they are useful or harmful.

II. Subject Matte A. Topic: Matter Sub-topic: Properties, Useful and Harmful materials

B. Reference: Science Beyond Borders Textbook pp. 2-5 C. Materials: Laptop PowerPoint Pictures of useful and harmful materials Paper Ballpen

III. Procedures A. Daily Routine -Prayer - Classroom management - Checking of Attendance B. Motivation The learners will watch the video about the useful and harmful materials. Questions: 1. What is the useful and harmful material? 2. What are the things can be considered as useful and harmful? 3. How can misuse of harmful materials be avoided?

IV. Presentation of the Lesson The teacher uses a PowerPoint presentation to discuss useful and harmful material, its functions and uses on how it helps humans in their daily lives.

V. Application Students will be given a piece of paper and different pictures about useful and harmful materials. Students are going to classify and observe the material in the picture and ask them the following questions in the power point. Students are going to discuss in front of the class, and they will be given a two (2) minutes to discuss his/her work. The teacher will give clarification to the students, if needed. Guide Questions: 1. 2. 3. 4.

What material have you got? Is that useful or harmful materials? What are the characteristics of material you got? What are the good/s and bad/s effects of the material you got? Give at least five DO’s and DON’TS to the material you got?

VI. Abstraction 1.Matter- is anything that occupied space and has mass. Everything around us is matter. 2.Matter has different properties that can be considered in order to minimize waste. 3.Everything around us is matter – the soil, water, air. 4.Matter has different properties that make them different from one another. 5.Some types have properties that make them good materials for producing useful products. Other types have properties that make them harmful. 6.Sometimes, matter also undergoes changes that affect its properties. VII. Evaluation/Assessment The students are given a twenty (20) item quiz. In activity sheet they will answer the following questions: A. Identification part I Directions: Determine which of the activities below is desirable or harmful. Write D if desirable or H if harmful.
