the heterosexual matrix...

Description

Question 1: Define the heterosexual matrix in your own words, as if you were explaining it to someone who had not heard the term before. Using the cases of Maria Patino, Max (raised as Judy) Beck, and Kirk/Kraig (of the “Sissy Boy Experiment”), analyze the effects of the heterosexual matrix on these individuals and why their cases provoked such strong, negative social reactions. Answer: "Hetero Matrix" originates from Judith Butler's "Gender Trouble". It portrays an imperceptible standard which does not seem, by all accounts, to be built, but rather comes through as "common" – a standard that characterizes everybody and everything as hetero until demonstrated in an unexpected way. The standard writes different methods for living with unnaturalness, abnormality or intangibility. It is a precondition of how we comprehend our constructed condition. Simone de Beauvoir’s thought that "One is not born a woman, but rather becomes one.” Beauvoir believes everybody is brought into the world with a sex in the anatomical sense, however, an individual procures sex after some time. Sex is an only a characteristic of being human, however sex does not figure out what sexual orientation one can turn into. From the case of Mario Patino, after giving gender test she was removed from Olympics. Also, other individuals face problems just because of the gender identification. The society itself creates the difference keeping blue color for boys and pink for girls. Moreover, the thinking of society is that boys can only play with masculine toys not with dolls. So, from the case of Kirk, he plays with feminine toys and when his parents came to know this, they did an experiment on him which made him feel depressed and in the end he committed suicide. His parents did a Sissy Boy Experiment on him just because they want him to do masculine things only so that the society will not judge him. But, this is completely wrong as it is their life and they are the only one to decide the way they want to be....
