Description

Son of Sam Essay Throughout the decades, killers and murderers have swept throughout this Earth and taken many lives. Of all serial killers residing in the state of New York, U.S.A., the Son Of Sam killer is widely known amongst these gunman. A total of six innocent lives stolen, never to be undone, were the casualties of this man’s actions. The amount of killings he made is not what made him notorious, it was the reasons and chase. The Son Of Sam killer was the most notorious killer to rise from New York. Ominous hysteria lingered in the smoggy air of New York for weeks with these mysterious murders happening. Over the summer of 1977, the height of the killer’s notoriety rose ( David Berkowitz (Son of Sam) ). Stores, clubs, restaurants -- public places were deserted. No one knew why, or who was committing these ignorant crimes. The fact that the victims had little to no connection with each other -- merely other than being female -- brought fright to many New York residents’ hearts. Apparently, the efforts of the NYPD and special task teams were fruitless, even with the note delivered by David Berkowitz. ( David Berkowitz (Son of Sam) ). The entire timeline of murders lasted over a years worth of time. Citizens, women, in particular, were left looking over their shoulders constantly. For such a long

period, people were left without answers. This makes the “Son of Sam” killer notorious.

Many murderers carry a disastrous weapon, or sharp blade. Berkowitz, on the other hand, had a rather unusual weapon. Wielding a Charter Arms .44 Bulldog handgun ( DAVID BERKOWITZ|SON OF SAM KILLER ), David was an excellent marksman. He learned from being in the army, for he entered after high school. Point, aim, fire; Playing executioner was that simple for this plagued soul. He claimed that demons told him what to do. Berkowitz’s neighbors owned a Labrador Retriever named Harvey. This dog would howl every night, their loud howls resonating in the ears of David. What makes the .44 Caliber killer memorable is not the dog, but what Berkowitz heard. He believed that the howling held a secret message -- a message for his lone ears. The “voices” told Berkowitz to kill, to murder women because they mocked him. Almost any woman David has met made him feel inadequate, and unattractive. For this, the voices, mainly named Cosmo, ordered him to commit murder. Fortunately, almost all dark takes comes to an end. A final detail that makes this killer notorious amongst New York is the way he was captured by police. Caught on a parking ticket, David Berkowitz was found coincidentally. Around

every area of each murder, his car was found within the vicinity. From such a seemingly harmless tip, future murders have been stopped before they can begin. The Son of Sam was ultimately found guilty, and fit to stand trial. Many things make a serial killer, yet there are a select few that stand out from this disturbed crowd. David Berkowitz, A.K.A The .44 Caliber Killer and Son of Sam, shines his eerie light over the New York crowd. From causing hysteria, to weapons, to the barks of a lonely dog, Berkowitz notoriously howls above the rest. Not many killers have such a spiteful story -- yet, spite was all he needed....
