Methods of Communication: Email Address, use college, ONLY. Students must use their college email address when sending online messages to the instructor. If your computer is not linked to the college email, please contact IT for specific questions. The college system often does not recognize student's personal email addresses and content may be blocked and treated as SPAM. There is no way for us to work around this, students must use their college email address, only. Also, reminder, when sending an email, professionalism is a priority and make sure that grammar and spelling are correct. Contact Information: Email: [email protected] Phone number for my office is 949-582-4912. However, the preferred method of communication is email. Office Hours: My office hours will be kept through Zoom before class from 12:00- 1:30pm and following class as needed from 3:30pm until 4:00pm please schedule an appointment for student privacy and to secure your appointment time. Class Sessions: Class meets on Mondays and Wednesday starting at 1:30PM and ending at 3:30PM. These sessions will be held to provide live lecture via Zoom and, to review weekly assignments and participate in discussion activities. This class only meets online and is live streamed. Students are expected to be present during each Zoom class session. You cannot sub out and replace yourself with your child, pet, friend, or family member. Please know that our courses are FERPA compliant. Sign onto Zoom by going into Canvas, then scroll to Confer Zoom which is on the left side of the home page in Connect. Discussion Board Assignments: Discussion board assignments are utilized during this course. When assigned, the first discussion board answer is due by Wednesday at 11:59 PM. During the same week, students must also reply to two additional posts by two other students. All three DB posts must be present to receive credit. All discussion board postings must demonstrate mutual respect and professionalism following netiquette rules. Students will use correct grammar, spelling and will not use profanity, slang, or derogatory terms towards other individuals. It is imperative that we listen with respect. The discussion board assignments will be based on relevant topics related to medical assisting and, healthcare. The goal is for students to use the resource literature and professional references to expand our knowledge related to the discussion topics. All assignments must be completed on time to earn credit. There is no extra credit. When DB assignments are created, they will appear under the weekly module in which it is assigned. The DB assignment will also be posted under "assignments." Students also will receive a prompt in their To Do list that appears on the home page (three reminders). 3

Connect Assignments: These are a great way to enhance and test your knowledge. I have built assignments in Connect. These assignments may only be accessed through the online account which is created after purchasing the Connect Access card that aligns with the course textbook. Students create the online account using the Connect Access card. See the Mc Graw Hill Tab on the Home Page for more information and technical support. Connect is linked to this Canvas course and, they correlate with the Weekly Reading and Assignment Schedule. The Connect assignments are assigned points. There are start and end dates for the Connect assignments, these are visible in Canvas under Syllabus, Weekly Modules, and the To Do List in Canvas. Students may not work beyond the assignment date and, the assignments are closed once the due date has been met. Scores from all completed Connect assignments automatically are uploaded to your grades in Canvas. Students may also view their scores in Connect and, there are recommendations listed for each chapter assignment to help serve as an additional resource for those students needing additional review. Grades may not upload from Connect until the assignment has become due, then once closed all Connect grades are downloaded into the gradebook. Students are allowed multiple attempts on the Connect assignments. So, you may complete these as many times as you chose to earn the highest score. BUT please note, the assignments are only repeatable and accessible during the time they are active. Once closed, the opportunity has been lost. The Connect assignments are intentionally created and assigned to help students review lecture content. Typically, student tests include 2-3 chapters and the topics that are discussed during lecture. Lecture slides are posted under modules. These are instructor created slides designed to emphasize important content from the textbook but also to elaborate on key concepts and, to allow class discussion. I do not lecture on every page from the assigned reading in the textbook. Student success requires the student to complete and assignments and read the assigned chapters. Students are accountable for all assigned content whether from lecture, Connect or, the assigned textbook reading. Please plan, I recommend that students read the chapter at least one time prior to the class lecture. Use the textbook during lecture, highlight concepts and take notes. Complete the assigned Connect assignments promptly, you have unlimited attempts but, there are due dates and no extensions. Reading and completing the Connect assignments prior to the lecture is best practice. However if not possible, complete as soon as class lecture ends. 4

Please keep in mind, everything that we do in this program is designed to help prepare our students to become work force ready and employable. If a student fails a course by earning a 69.9 or less, the student may repeat the class one time to attempt a passing score of 70%. All grades are posted into CANVAS and are not rounded up. For example, if a student earns a score of 89.5 in the class, the grade is a B (which is between 80-89.9%, there is no rounding of numbers). Late work has 10% reduced from the total score, except the Connect Assignments, these have an automatic forced upload date which is not adjusted.
