Topic 2 DQ 1 Review the seven different emphases of servant leadership in Chapter 3 of the textbook. Which emphasis was most divergent from your view about servant leadership and which was most convergent? Explain your response. Strengthen your claims with supporting citations. After reviewing the seven different emphases of servant leadership, I found that The Managerialist emphasis is most divergent, and The Syncretists emphasis is the most convergent of my view about servant leadership. Authentic servant leadership is not just applied to one area of your life; it should be the core and basis for everything you do. It is more of a lifestyle and not something that should be implemented on an as-needed basis or when most convenient. The Managerialist emphasis appears to implement servant leadership only to achieve performance goals and for the organization's betterment and not for all parties' improvement. In the sense of business, Autry considers the application of servant leadership and illustrates how sound management practice can be consistently implemented when adhering to and guided by the principles of servant leadership (Dierendonck & Patterson, 2010). This is proof that the priority is business and not servant leadership. The Syncretist seeks to make a more holistic view of who they are as individuals and implement servant leadership in every aspect of their lives. This idea is present in religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, and theistic and non-theistic secular humanism systems (Dierendonck & Patterson, 2010). Covey further explains that the idea of servant leadership is a philosophy, a natural rule, and one of the significant challenges of our lives is to get our social value systems and personal habits matched with this emotionally satisfying principle (Dierendonck & Patterson, 2010). In addition, Greenleaf thought that people would grow best in both by being motivated to incorporate servant leadership more personally and spiritually (Dierendonck & Patterson, 2010).
