Cynthia Charles Topic 2 Discussion Question 2 UNV-504 1/26/2021 Review the "University Policy Handbook" within the study materials for this topic. As you review the material, think about how these types of situations might arise in your academic career. How does academic dishonesty undermine the purpose of graduate school?

Academic dishonesty undermines the purpose of graduate school as it is defeats the purpose of attending higher education…learning. Graduate education provides a more advanced learning in a specialized discipline or sub-discipline. Graduate school gives an in-depth understanding such that the student becomes somewhat of an expert in the topic of study. Not only does academic dishonesty undermine the graduate school on a personal level, it also discredits the Master’s degree as it is viewed in academia. For the most part, academic dishonesty involves plagiarizing in some form. It may be due to a lack of understanding of the assignment or possibly a lack of time. However, GCU has created an avenue for help and assistance in all areas. The university has resources on campus and online to provide students the help that they need in order to be successful in their studies. Graduate students are held to a higher standard in their courses, especially when dealing with academic dishonesty, as they have already gone through undergrad to be able to understand what is expected of them to be successful. While reading GCU’s University Policy Handbook, I came across the Student Conduct Process and was in awe of what I read. GCU mentions in that section that their approach is loving and redeeming to all violating students. This shows their faith in its students and its core values as a university. This does not mean that students should abuse the chance that may be given by the university after being heard for their violation, but it helps students want to better themselves and strive for excellence while displaying this kind of act to others around them.
