Topic 1 DQ 1

The importance of children knowing and connecting to the characters in a piece of literature because it provides them the opportunity to respond to the literature. It gives the children to know more about their cultural heritage as well as those of others. It also helps children embrace and explore their development of intelligence and creativity. Connecting to characters also nurtures growth and development of the child's personality and social skills. Children will start to develop their own opinions and conclusions about the characters through the literature. Not all children will come to the same conclusion and will open discussions in the classroom on why they might think the way they do. Starting to have children explore literature at a young age will encourage children and students at an older age to find enjoyment and adventure through the characters in other books. (Al Darwish, 2015). Through knowing and connecting characters in a piece of literature will also teach the children, later on in life that books are full of important information and knowledge they can gain from reading. Creativity is important in developing children's adventures. This is where make believe comes into play. In the beginning, children at a young age with start to make up their conclusions and words the characters should say and do. In pre-school, picture books are a big hit. Children can engage with the teacher and other classmates through role play. The teacher might ask a child to tell him or her what the person or animal is saying. Then, the class can even start role playing and put their imagination into play. In elementary school, the children will start developing their own thoughts and answer questions a teacher might ask. The connection with what is being read to them and being able to comprehend the story. Then in middle and high school, not only will the students start reading independently more often, but they will learn that books are filled with important information that will guide them through research and development. Hopefully these techniques learned though out their lives will guide them in their future endeavors.
