Topic 2 DQ 1 Recall the three types of claims and the four big validities. Explain which validities are most relevant for each of the three types of claims. Researchers do not usually aim to achieve all four of the big validities at once, why not?

Re: Topic 2 DQ 1

Good morning Dr. Davis and Class, The three types of claims are frequency claims, association claims, and casual claims. Frequency claims focus on one variable and describe a particular rate of the level of the variable. An Association clam must involve two or more variables and argues that one variables level are associated or relate to one another sometimes, meaning when one changes the other is likely to as well but may not always. A casual claim uses two variables and argues that a specific change in one variable is responsible for changing the other (Morling, 2021). The four validities include construct validity which refers to a measure of how well a variable is measured or manipulated. External validity refers to a measure of how well the results of a study generalized to, or represent, individuals or contexts besides those in the study itself. Statistical validity refers to the extent to the extent to which statistical conclusions derived from a study are accurate and reasonable. Internal validity, refers to the ability to rule out alternative explanations for a causal relationship between two variables. Frequency claims are usually evaluated with construct validity, statistical validity, and external validity. Association claims are usually evaluated with construct validity, statistical validity, and external validity. Casual claims use all four, construct validity, external validity, statistical validity, and internal validity. Researchers do not usually aim to achieve all four big validities at once they focus on what their priorities are because it is nearly impossible to conduct a study that will meet all four validities at once.
