2 Tucking Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt is a wonderful, heart pounding and warm story about adventure, risks, and friendship. The book had so many great concepts and each concept was brought to a satisfying close. This book was very intriguing to me. When I first started reading the book I was a little confused because the setting and characters jumped back and forth. After the first few chapters I finally had an understanding of what location and characters I was reading about. After the initial confusion I was able to read the book with ease. One of my favorite things about this book is the importance of friendship and family. Winnie risks her life to save the Tucks and keep their secret. When she did this she knew she would have to face the wrath of her very strict well-mannered family, but she didn’t care. Winnie knew that what she was doing was right and she had to do it. When she faced her family, they couldn’t understand why she would do such a thing, they hadn’t raised her that way. She explained that they are her friends and she loves them. Her family understood and respected her choices. This spoke volumes to me. Even though she made some dangerous decisions her family still stood by her side and were supportive of her. Once her family understood her reasoning they didn’t hate or punish her, they loved her. Classroom applications This book can be used in the classroom as a literature circle. I would use this from fourth grade to seventh grade. One activity I would use with my class is a reader theater. Since the book is pretty long I would break the book into scenes and assign a group of 4-6 students a script that is based off of the scene they have. Students will then assign themselves parts and act out the scene they have, this will require movement. I would have the students plan their scene and present them to the class. I would also have students fill out a plot chart. A plot chart would be

3 great to use with this book because it helps them learn and understand the parts of the plot. For ELs they can draw the plot out using pictures.
