Description

1 Reflection: GCU Code of Conduct In your own words, explain two academic integrity violations and two code of conduct violations. Give a specific example of what the four identified violations could be. Two academic integrity violations: Academic dishonesty like cheating, attempting to cheat or assisting other to cheat are adamic integrity violations. An example of this is Copying from another student’s work or allowing another student to copy from my own. Plagiarism, intentionally or unintentionally by representing other’s work as own is another form of academic integrity violations. An example includes copying written papers, music, media etc. and representing them in own work without citing or acknowledging the original author. Two code of conduct violations: Noncompliance with laws and university polices is a code of conduct violation. An example includes falsification of university record. Poor attendance in class is a code of conduct violation. An example is absence without proper notification or satisfactory reasons for 3 or more consecutive days. Respond to the following questions in 200-250 words: The academic integrity section discusses academic dishonesty. One area of dishonesty is plagiarism. Define plagiarism in your own words. Plagiarism is taking someone’s work and claim it as own without giving due credit to the original author. One of the ways to avoid this is to give proper credit where it is due even in slightest of doubt. Instructor would guide and ask to remove if he/she thinks it is a common knowledge and does not require citation. Why do you think students plagiarize?

2 I think one of the reason student plagiarize is because they need to produce the content in a certain period of time which the instructor wants. Also, sometime student may be doing it unknowingly Describe how students can avoid academic dishonesty, in group work or as an individual? One of the most important things to remember is to avoid plagiarism. I think more education and knowledge sharing of plagiarism is needed throughout the course from the beginning and everyone should actively participate in sharing their thoughts in this topic. Over a period of time it becomes part of the process and student are less likely to plagiarize. In group work making sure of what is expected from each of the member and identify clear ownership of task should help in creating original. I think awareness and mandatory trainings in this areas should help student be mindful of such thing and would encourage them to avoid academic dishonesty....
