Topic 3 Managing Your GCU Experience Directions: Attend the university’s Kick-off event (date and time will be provided by your instructor) in order to gain insight into your college experience here at GCU. After you have attended the Kick-off, answer the following questions. Record your responses to all questions on this document (the boxes will expand should you require more space).

What are the clubs, learning communities or professional organizations specific to your program? How likely are you to join one of these organizations? Which one interests you the most, why? (minimum 100 words)

Some clubs are the Academic and Honor Societies, Career and PreProfessional, Community and Volunteer, Social, etc. I would likely join one of these clubs when it gets closer to actually joining the nursing program. The social program interest me the most because during my high school years I was a social person. Since I have started college, I feel like I have lost that part of me so I feel like this club would help me get it back. This club would also help with nursing because in the medical field you need to be comfortable with talking to people.

Set and share a goal for how you will become involved in a learning community, club, or organization. Discuss how involvement in these types of groups could positively affect you as a student? (minimum 100 words)

I have thought about joining certain clubs and organizations in college, but I plan on not doing that until sophomore year. The reason for this is so I can get use to freshman year and understand what it is about. My goal is to be in a club by my sophomore year. Being involved in these types of groups/clubs will positively affect me as a student because it will help me meet other students and interact. It will allow me to be social and meet students who are going into the same field as me or just people I can general connect with.

What do you need to achieve academically to be successful in the future? Are there any GPA requirements,

In the university kickoff they did not really go over the gpa requirement for nursing because they said we would go over it next meeting we have. There is however a gpa requirement for nursing, I am just not sure what it is. In order to get into the next level of nursing you must take a test based off math, English, and a little bit

volunteer hours, or internships associated with your future career goals? (minimum 100 words)

of anatomy and physiology. If you pass the test you get into nursing school. Once you are into school you have start getting clinical hours which are basically volunteer hours. Clinical hours will help you understand what it will be like once you are actually in the field.

Utilizing the gcu.edu website, locate and explain the following:

 GCU Mission and Vision: With an improving financial structure, the university recruited a new leadership team in 2008 to envision a future that centered around a hybrid campus strategy—combining traditional students with nontraditional students (primarily working adults studying at the graduate level).

( www.gcu.edu )  5 Mission Competencies: Global Citizen, Critical Thinker, Effective Communicator, Responsible Leader, and The Mission must be seen from the context of the Christian Heritage  GCU’s Christian Identity and Heritage: A community of people strategically united in carrying out a mission that centers on following Jesus Christ in word and in deed, and in sharing the love of Christ generously to all who participate in the life of the community.

List the steps you would take, and anyone you may need to contact in order to resolve the following situations:

 Failing a class: If I was failing a class, I would look in loud cloud to see why I am failing and if it was something my instructor could help with, I would go and talk to them.

 Slept through an exam/test: If I slept through an exam/test I would talk to my instructor to see if there was something we could do in order for me to make up for it.

 Missed an assignment due date: If I missed an assignment due date I would go and talk to my instructor, the same as I would if it was a test.

 Feeling nervous or overwhelmed:

If I was feeling nervous or overwhelmed I would go to my counselor to get some advice and I would go to chapel to get grace in my life.

 Scheduled for the wrong course/class: If I was scheduled for the wrong course/class, I would talk to my counselor to get it fixed.

 Cannot log into LoudCloud/GCU Library: If I was not able to log into LoudCloud/GCU Library I would talk to tech support....
