Description

ANTH: 1301 The Miocene primates consisted of monkeys and apes. Coming from about 23 to 5.3 million years ago, they are considered the first humanlike creatures. Different families of Miocene, along with different ages of the epoch, are known to span across Africa, Europe Asia, and parts of North America. The Miocene species that most likely represents the last common ancestor of all living great apes is the Griphopithecus, as they were the first true ape and are believed to be the first to lead into the later apes of Europe and Asia.
