Description

Should you trust your first impression? The Ted Talks I have chosen is “Should you trust your first impression?”, which is narrated by Addison Anderson. This is a very interesting video since it talks about how a first impression is created, depending on the feelings that person provokes in somebody in that moment. Anderson says the first impression is quite important since it is the one that usually remains the longest, and even longer if it is a bad impression. However, he also explains that bad impressions are not always reliable. If we don't know the person, and the first impression we have of someone is bad, something may have happened that made him act badly, but that doesn't mean he always behaves that way. Anderson gave the example of 2 football players. One of them (X) was insulted by a player he never met before from the other team (Y). Suddenly he was insulted by a man he has never met before. Therefore, the first impression (Y) made of (X) was bad, and when (X) met (Y) a second time, he no longer trusted him even though (Y) had behaved kindly. In fact, if you had a bad impression of someone, you will always remember that bad feeling. But, have you ever thought that the person had a bad day? I consider that this Ted Talks has made me wonder if I ever had a bad impression of someone who might actually be a nice person. I believe that we should not rely on first impressions since they are not always certain....
