If you had been a member of Congress at the time, what actions would you have taken to avoid the conflict over Reconstruction immediately following the Civil War? The issues that related to the Reconstruction which divided Republicans at the end of the civil war were to separate the south from becoming the way it was before the civil war. The individuals who felt that the South shouldn’t change were called the Radical Republicans. If I were a member of the Congress, I would have sat and talk to some of the people from congress and tell them what is needed to provide for the Radicals in a way that would not conflict with the President. No one should be against each other because we are all in the same nation and we are what makes up a nation so we should all just work together....
